Bodybuilding run amok — 37 Comments

  1. Okay. Now listen UP! Neo and list GUUD!

There is an iron law about posting images and that law is: “ONCE SOMETHING IS SEEN IT CANNOT BE UNSEEN!”

Learn it and love it and DO NOT EVER! do something like this to your unsuspecting and entirely unprepared readers.

  2. Even I, who had a short, pleasant fling with the pastime, find this disturbing. Why? Because, from her appearance, she has gotten to about 3% body fat. That level of body fat is near death for a man and much nearer for a woman. Women bodybuilders should not go below 6-8% body fat because women need a bit more fat just to stay alive. Also, getting that lean with breast implants makes the implants look more, well, out of place.

It is an obssessive activity that can very easily be carried to extremes. I have talked with big time bodybuilders who go so far as to measure every drop of water consumed and urine excreted to maintain as little extra water in their system as necessary in the weeks leading up to a contest. No stone is left unturned in the attempt to be ultra ripped with paper thin skin.

What I liked about it was that it took discipline and self control. And yes, I have issues with control. I love those Hitler in the bunker videos. Just saying.

  3. I am officially considering playing for the other team.

Getting down with her is practically the same thing as playing for the other team.

It’s what I’d say to any man who finds high fashion runway models attractive: Face it, you like boys. Accept it.

For my part, I refuse to consider any woman who could kick my ass. It’s a policy I commend, and one that has served me well over the years.

  4. Simon, if you ever reconsider that decision, please note my advice of 9:01 pm. It could be a matter of life and death (yours!).

  5. What are those funny little horizontal lines across her tummy? I’ve never seen a tummy like that.

  6. Yeah, what vanderleun said.

That sort of picture should be in a link with a clear warning attached to it: CLICK THIS LINK AT YOUR OWN RISK.

  7. I have two theories.

1.) She has low self esteem and has been self conscious about her body image most of her life.

2.) She’s an extremely driven Type “A” personality who has pushed herself to excel at nearly everything (academics, work, sport, whatever).

The “before” picture would be interesting.

  8. There is no such thing as “woman” any more, there is just men, and mini men, who are equal but better… steroids help too…

  9. renminbi Says: Is this possible without steroids?

I have had a couple of friends (guys) who were into body building. They both told me that this kind of result is impossible without steroids, even for men. With serious work, men can get an muscular definition somewhat like this, but women can’t get even close to this look without steroids, because they just don’t have the body chemistry to form this kind of musculature.

Of my friends, one guy flirted with steroids for a few weeks, didn’t like the side effects, and quit. The other was smart enough to not even try it.

  10. Since I have been getting back in shape myself and back into running I have found that there are always a few people that take a sport to extremes. Since I have started training for marathons I am always facinated by those runners who look like they have not only no body fat but no real muscle. They are usually the uber-runners who train so much that their body is consuming their muscle. You would think that they would look in the mirror and see the abberation that they have become but the never seem to.

I am proud to say that I have lost 45+ lbs and 5 clothes sizes since February and actually have a 2 pack on my stomach that is threatening to become a 4 pack. I don’t think I will ever get my stomach to have as many ripples as the girl in the picture. I like food way to much to ever get to that level.

BTW…. For anyone out there wanting to run or walk to get into shape I highly recommend looking into doing so with Team In Training. They can take someone who is just getting off the couch and have them able to either run or walk a half marathon faster than you think. You do have to agree to fund raise for the Leukemia and Lymphomia Society but the health benefits are worth it.

  11. Proving for the umteenth time that beauty is, indeed, in the eyes of the beholder…

  12. Please, now, post one of Chris Christie in a “posedown” to help us return to normal.

  13. The women in the East German womens olympic team resembled that. I used to joke they had everything a man could want, big muscles, a deep voice and a mustach.

  14. I was going to say “nice silicone”, but J.J. beat me to it.

*shrug* Maybe somebody out there finds such things attractive. No doubt she looks almost normal in street clothes.

(And no, I don’t feel the need for an eye-wash. But Neo, if you’re tempted to follow up with swimsuit pics of Nancy Pelosi and Madeline Albright, please don’t.)

  15. Ray, you forgot the hairy chest to curl ones fingers through….

Beauty is only skin deep, but ugliness is to the bone…

  16. The last time I seen something alike was a TV reportage from Cairo museum (hall of mummies).

  17. Army Mom – Nice post. I’ve got friends who do 100 mile races, which is getting close to addictive. However, they just look like they are in good condition. I photograph these races and I’m always amazed at the wide variety of body types you see out there:

I only run marathons; it’s hard enough to be challenging and it keeps you in pretty good shape (allied with cross-training).

  18. Pat, I looked at your photos and there were a good number of emaciated-looking bodies. I can’t see how being that obsessed with anything is healthy.

  19. I’m with Scott on this one. Low self esteem with type A obsessive behavior. I was friends with a very bright funny actor who was also a muscle head. He was “ordered” by his agent to “normalize” some. You could see his increasing fear and vulnerability as he lost his muscle mass. It had become his armor and now he was his naked self. A real good guy btw, and NOT narcissistic. And after a while, being known for your size and muscle eventually becomes a false identity. And when you lose muscle, you lose identity.

  20. One more observation. Women ARE more physically vulnerable, and after experiences of violence or threats from men, I could see why a fearful vulnerable feeling woman may want to bulk up.

  21. Shoot, back in the late ’90’s, when I would visit my neighorhood bar and there was nothing on tv on a winter’s weeknight, we’d flick on ESPN’s female body building ‘contest’ taped show. Having that on the ‘boob’ tube definitely increased the ‘help me to forget I ever saw that’ liquor sales.

  22. People should go ahead and pursue whatever goals they want to. I don’t really care either one, unless they are somehow furthering or hindering human progress on an ethical level.
