“This story contains details some readers may find distressing” — 15 Comments

  1. A local talk show host–radio–said he had access to some footage of the terror. According to his description, French men were running away, “jogging”, except for the guy who was recording the thing.
Not to be snakier than usual, had there been a couple of American tourists in the area, they’d have taken the guy out and France would have given them medals.
Had it happened in a blue city, the heroic intervenors would have been indicted for assault, if not murder, and islamophobic hate crimes.

Reminded, of course, of the Thalys train incident in which a couple of hundred passengers–in a meat-filled kill sack–would have been shot but for a handful of Americans.

  2. It seems probable that he has severe paranoid schizophrenia, which developed in his twenties. His wife and daughter can relax safely in Sweden, supported by Swedes forever, probably in Malmo, the most Islamic city in Swden.
Frenchmen running away while three-year olds were being knifed?
    Cowards. Pigs.

  3. Oh c’mon Richard…you’re not even trying to be “snaky” 😉
“France would have…” thrown them in jail.

  4. Being Syrian, he may have a familial/cultural link to the Syrian Orthodox Church & know the language of invoking God’s name, but the crucial backstory for me would be to track him over the last 10-15 years. Why’d he leave Syria when certainly others have not? He had status in Sweden, why go to France? What’s he been doing in the way of work if any?

The last bit of a DailyMail article is…typical:
“Thursday’s attack is likely to spur greater scrutiny of France’s immigration and asylum policy, with right-wing politicians seizing on the suspected culprit’s identity as a refugee.”

The “right wing” ‘seizes.’ Sheesh. About bloody time to seize something I reckon.

  5. If you can’t defend your children, you don’t deserve to win, and you won’t.

  6. “can’t” usually means an inability due to some physical factor. In this case, it seems, there was a lack of interest. Different.

  7. Very few should have ‘refugee status’ in Sweden or France. Refugees should be cared for in camps proximate to their country of origin, with a view to their eventual repatriation. The only refugees in Sweden or in France should be those who can (1) demonstrate they are in danger back home and (2) arrived there having hopped on the first plane out of Dodge and bought a ticket where all the stops on the way were in occidental countries whose personal income per capita did not fall below a certain threshold. The only refugees resettled should be those whose home country meets the definition of what we used to call a ‘captive nation’. All throughout the Near East, North Africa, and Central Asia, there are only three countries which might meet that definition and none of them are a slam dunk.

As for obtaining settler status in any European country, you should have to pass a physical, pass a cursory background check, and pass a written and oral examination testing your proficiency in that country’s modal languages. Then, you should wait your turn in a queue. You get married while waiting, you and your spouse are moved to a spot halfway between where you started and the end. You have children, your spot is adjusted rearward with each additional child. When your family arrives at the head of the queue, you’re clear to enter if all the members over 14 can pass a cursory background check and a proficiency test in the local language. A country with Sweden’s population would be well-advised to limit the issuance of settler’s visas to about 12,000 per year.

Your policy on immigrant reception is important. Access to common provision is properly granted incrementally. You earn credit on behalf of yourself, your spouse, and your juvenile dependents via paid employment. You accumulate the equivalent of 48 quarters of f/t employment, you receive the same access as a native citizen. You have fewer credits, you get fewer benefits.

  9. Talked to a pastor today about the French thing. What is a Christian to do if on scene. Love one’s neighbor as one self. But the idea that the kids might be one’s neighbors didn’t seem to occur to him.
