Abbott signs Texas law banning medical transition for minors — 33 Comments

  1. Nebraska beat TX to the punch.

But, note well, that a federal judge in FL put an injunction the FL law. There’s also a pending case in Arkansas.

I’ve been asking Sen. Megan Hunt via Twitter to file a lawsuit in NE. The thing is, I know most of the federal judges in NE and there’s no way they would find the NE law unconstitutional. Rope-a-dope.

  2. Just now in Florida a leftist federal judge has issued an injunction against a similar bill which bans doctors from prescribing puberty blocker and cross-sex hormones to minors.

  3. The cat got out of the bag when gays (formerly known as ‘homosexuals’) and the leftist (e.g., Episcopal) Protestant churches agreed on “gay marriage”, which the Supremes found in 2015 was constitutional. No Sherlock Holmes simply living with Dr. Watson; no, they had now to be “married”.

The American moral decay was well underway by then.

To H with the nuclear family and the raising of children by the married hetero couple. California was the first no-fault divorce state, a law which the esteemed Reagan signed in 1969, and other states copied, yielding a horrible rate rise of divorces in the 1970s, with the further extensive destruction of nuclear families. I fell for that in 1979, despite having two kids. It was a selfish, self-centered breaking of a marriage vow. Vows are not to be taken so lightly!
Fortunately, my guilty conscience made me take good care of those kids, and we have always been very close.

  4. The injunction in Florida apparently applies only to the three minors directly involved in the current lawsuit.

  5. What Neo rightly describes as extremist rhetoric is a common Alphabet People tactic. The LGBT-ad nauseam crowd is angry at Target for removing or hiding Pride Month merch:

“More than 200 LGBTQ groups angered by Target’s decision to pull Pride merchandise from shelves are demanding the company ‘denounce extremists’ and restock all the Pride merchandise in stores and online. The Human Rights Campaign, along with GLAAD, GLSEN and other groups, released a statement asking Target and other businesses like Anheuser-Busch to ‘reject and speak out against anti-LGBTQ+ extremism going into Pride Month.’ . . . . The organizations laid out a three-part demand that calls on Target to restock all the Pride merchandise both in stores and online, ensure the safety of Target employees and release a statement ‘reaffirming their commitment to the LGBTQ+ community’ within 24 hours.

‘When it comes to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion, there is no such thing as neutrality,’ the LGTBQ coalition said.”

  6. Schelling is a biology denying enthusiast for child mutilations.

    HELLO Moloch!!!

  7. PRIDE is the deadliest sin of all, so it is fitting that all these Alphabet People should demand “Pride” of Target! And get the desired Pride Month.
    Pfaugh.

  8. There is the problem, 200 mentality I’ll people scream and cry to make a corporation do what they want.

  9. Good for the Governors and Legislatures that are on top of this.

Dollars to donuts most of the minors being lined up for puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones & surgeries are already on the autism spectrum & drugged up to the eyes for one thing or another & being told by their Munchausen-by-proxy mothers that “this is the thing that will make you happy happy happy so you don’t kill yourself.”

Until we actually deal with the dysfunction at the family level, the best the law can do is put a finger in the leak. I’ll take that as a stop gap…but we’ve really got some hard core cultural repair to do along the way…if we can.

  10. I just can’t get my mind around the medical societies and schools buying into the transgender thing, especially with children. Who would want to practice Medicine in this atmosphere?

  11. Emmett Schelling, executive director at Transgender Education Network of Texas, criticized SB 14 and other bills advanced by the Texas Legislature this session as an “opportunity to launch a barbaric hate campaign against trans and queer Texans.”

Here’s a thought: leave. Please go benefit others with your diversity, leave Texas to wallow in the horror of homo-trans-phobia.

Try the PRC. I’m sure it will accept and welcome you and your ideas on child rearing.

  12. I can’t get my mind around the abuse of rational basis review by leftist judges over the past decade or so. Start with Obergefell. Whatever you believe about gay marriage, its absolutely bonkers to conclude that there is no rational basis for having an institution called marriage for opposite sex couples. A man and a woman tend to make babies when they get together. Other pairings do not. If “rational basis” has any meaning at all, that is a rational basis for traditional marriage. And yet I believe the basis of Kennedy’s opinion was that there was no rational basis for limiting marriage to male/female couples.

Same here with the FL decision. It is emminently rational to delay a fairly new “treatment” that results in permanent mutiliiation and sterilization until the patient is old enough to understand and consent. Again, if that isn’t a rational basis, I don’t know what is.

And yet this FL judge seems to have ruled that there is no rational basis to ban puberty blockers and surgery for minors.

  13. So Schelling characterizes the Texas bill as part of a “barbaric hate campaign against trans and queer Texans.” He should be glad he doesn’t live in Maryland, where the local Muslims are protesting Alphabet People propaganda in the schools. From Andy Ngo: “Liberals were left stunned as Muslims & Islamists gathered on Tuesday to protest the Montgomery County (Maryland) School Board over its LGBTQ+ curriculum. The Muslims want to be able to remove their children from the classroom when that material is taught.”

  14. According to Legal Insurrection, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has declared a state of emergency for the first time ever over the treatment of the gay community.

Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) — the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization — officially declared a state of emergency for LGBTQ+ people in the United States for the first time in its more than 40-year history, following an unprecedented and dangerous spike in anti-LGBTQ+ legislative assaults sweeping state houses this year. A new report released by HRC today — LGBTQ+ Americans Under Attack — details more than 75 anti-LGBTQ+ bills that have been signed into law this year alone, more than doubling last year’s number, which was previously the worst year on record.

The sharp rise in anti-LGBTQ+ measures has spawned a dizzying patchwork of discriminatory state laws that have created increasingly hostile and dangerous environments for LGBTQ+ people, prompting HRC today to also issue a national warning and downloadable guidebook for the LGBTQ+ community — including health and safety resources, a summary of state-by-state laws, “know your rights” information, and resources designed to support LGBTQ+ travelers as well as those already living in hostile states. This guidebook will arm LGBTQ+ people with resources and information to help ensure safety in all 50 states.

Somebody please airlift a supply of sedatives to these poor little hothouse violets.

As the folks at LI note, “No shock this is happening after the Target backlash.”

  15. “Mutilating kids—and f**king with their heads!—will make you FREE!!!”

A winning campaign slogan if there ever was one.
(The Democrats should put THAT on a flag…but only after they add it to the Bill of Rights, of course…)

    File under: “I have a nightmare…”

  16. That’s step one. Step too is putting these Mengele’s out of business and behind bars where they belong.
    ==
Note, California, New Jersey, and some other states have banned ‘reparative therapy’ for male homosexuals. It’s illegal to go talk to someone like Joseph Nicolosi once a week about your dissatisfactions with life, but totes OK to contract with a perverted surgeon and perverted endocrinologist to butcher you and poison you with hormone treatments. Our elites are vile.

  17. I can see trans people, whatever the state of their changing, wanting to inflict this onto as many as possible, and emphasizing kids who can’t protect themselves.
    It’s the woke straights I don’t get

  18. I was pondering this further last night. I don’t think that the left has any intellectual ability to even process the possibility that they might lose on any political issue. This applies at least to the generation that has come of age since Obama in 2008.

This is why any hint of compromise with Obama was nearly impossible. It is why the left preferred to do greivous damage to the republic rather than simply accept that Donald Trump won a presidential election.

Meandering back to the topic at issue, I think this leftist defect is particularly acute on sexual revolution issues. The left has been cruelly wrong about the trans issue from the start, but they were winning the politics as long as the convsersation was about “bathroom bills” in the hypothetical. Now, we have women/girls being assaulted in single sex bathrooms by men/boys. We have mediocre male athletes switching to women’s athletics and beating the women. We have increasing numbers of minors being permantly mutilated and sterilized. The politics have turned.

I think (hope) that leftist’s political defeat on the trans issue is already baked into the cake. They’re not going to accept it, though. I don’t think that their brains are wired to accept it. There will be (more) violence and (more) norms burned to the ground before this is over. (No rational basis to ban sterilization and sexual mutilation until a patient reaches the age of majority? Really?)

It will be over when Democrat politicians start saying no to the activists. But who will have the courage to go first?

  19. they want to bend mutilate spindle wasn’t that mario savios words, the youth of this country, its an unspeakable crime against the mind and body, obama succeeded much more than he failed, sadly, the pirate crew around biden have done much the same,

  20. from memri

Davis’s tweet sparked furious responses from the Qatari media and from public figures in the country, who accused him of supporting perversion and unnatural human behavior and of imposing his own values on Qatari society, which opposes them. As ambassador to Qatar, they argued, Davis should respect the religion and the customs of Qatari society and refrain from tweeting messages supporting the LGBTQI+ community.

  21. “…a state of emergency declared…”
That’s odd. Andrew Sullivan has declared that the burgeoning trans movement is ALL about targeting gays.
    Hmm.
Oh well. I suppose one MIGHT be able to conclude that the trans movement was fomented by those evil Conservative troglodytes precisely to decimate the gay community.
    (If one tries hard enough…)

Pretty sure similar to the woke NIMBY’s ,who are all for affordable housing, are same people who are all for the other kids getting sliced and diced, but not for their own.

If I were 20 again, I would not apply to medical school. Medicine has turned for the worse, not in medical science, but in practice. A majority of new MDs are female, so they will not all be full-time equivalents (cramps, pregnancies, kids). We have 20 dermatologists in my town, but only 2 work full-time, and they are male, the rest are female, all part-timers.
Plus, there is all this virtue-signaling, pro-LGBTQ+ nonsense by hospitals and professional societies.
Finally, the majority of freshly-trained specialists are now hospital employees. You, as an MD with a code of ethics, want to report to a hospital administrator? “You’re spending too much time, on average, with each patient. You must see more patients daily from now on.”

  24. In addition to Muslims, Hispanic and Armenian parents in California are protesting gay and trans indoctrination in schools. Antifa showed up at a parents’ protest in Glendale and things got ugly: “An all-out brawl between Antifa and parents erupted outside a Glendale, California school board meeting on Tuesday. . . . Armenian and Hispanic families have been protesting the Glendale school board’s pride celebrations and the indoctrination of their children into radical gender ideology. Parents were there protesting, trying to work with Glendale Unified as to what will be taught during Pride Week.”

When the Antifa goons seemed to have met their match, the Glendale cops “rushed in and saved Antifa & far-left protesters during a fight against Armenian-Americans outside a school board meeting.” Andy Ngo’s videos of the fracas at the link:

  25. Every headline I see states that the Texas law bans medical care to trans.

No where have I read that the law bans psychological counselling or medical treatment that uses medication that the FDA approved for treatment. It bans endocrine blockers, which are not approved for transitioning teens, but for serious conditions like breast cancer, prostate cancer …

I discussed this with ChatGPT, and it was like a hostile witness interrogation. The claim was initially made that hormone blockers were “approved” because they are being used. Then it conceded, this is an off-labelled use. It stated that hormone blocker, as a part of therapy, reduced the risk of suicide in trans teens. When pushed, it conceded that the current literature is under-powered and there is no trials comparing counselling with or without hormone blocker. There are no studies as of September 2021 showing any clinical affect on suicide risk. There is the claim that it helps gender dysphoria, and cited a Dutch study. This was an observational study and did not report a p-value.

In concession, ChatGTP said: “The existing research on hormone blockers in transgender healthcare primarily includes observational studies, open-label trials, and smaller-scale studies with various limitations. These studies provide valuable insights into the potential benefits and effects of hormone blockers, but they do not provide the same level of evidence as large-scale, well-controlled, double-blinded placebo-controlled trials.”

In conclusion, there are no statistical-useful trials that show a decreased risk of suicide or gender dysphoria by hormone blockers, and none even as bad as these, that gender changing surgery improves outcomes.

There is no evidence that psychological counseling and management of depression, is not superiors to hormone blockers and surgery, and unlike the later, the potential for harm is far less too. The is curious lack of studies that do a head-to-head comparison to show the superiority of one treatment over the other.

  26. @ Patrick > “The is [a] curious lack of studies that do a head-to-head comparison to show the superiority of one treatment over the other.”

Meaning “why hasn’t this happened yet?” – not curious (strange, illogical) at all: no one is funding those studies, because they don’t want to proof that the money-making trans treatments are worse than useless.

?1/ BREAKING: The largest “trans healthcare” providers in the U.S. are rubber-stamping letters approving gruesome, life-altering surgeries. It’s such a racket that my producer was approved for testicle removal in #22minutes. The tape is disturbing.

13/ Three days later, Plume sent this letter to “Chelsea Bussey” – who does not exist — saying he was experiencing “significant, ongoing gender dysphoria.” The letter strongly recommended “Chelsea” for testicle removal.

16/ This scam is the cutting-edge of “trans healthcare.” After launching just a couple of years ago, Plume now operates in 41 states. Folx is in 47 states. How is it possible they’ve expanded so quickly?
17/ The answer is that there’s big money behind this. Plume and Folx raised more than $45 million last year.
@craft_ventures just led Plume’s $14 million fundraising round. Is
@DavidSacks aware this is going on? Are @transformcptl, @generalcatalyst
    , @slow, or @townhallvntrs?

    18/ Insurance companies like
    @Aetna, @UnitedHealthGrp, and @Cigna
work with Plume. Do they know they’re paying for surgeries based on obviously false information?

    One reply:

    JW @C130GuyBNA
Matt, if you send an investigative reporter over to
    @VUMChealth that is happening today.

A friend of a friend is a nurse who was placed involuntarily in gender reassignment surgical practice (@VanderbiltU has bullied/intimidated her when she asked to move). Based on high volume (VUMC runs one surgeon to 4-5 patients at the same time – Dr just flits around castrating in parallel) she asked how much informed consent/counseling they get. Surgeon laughed. He said he would do it through a drive-through window as long as they’re paying.

VU ramped up their surgical operations after the child mutilation ban in order to make up lost revenue – go look at how haphazard and frivolous they are about castrating/mutilating mentally ill adults. Transing the disturbed is BIG BUSINESS.
