  1. Hmm, maybe this’ll bring us all together…
    (Insane times require extreme measures?)
    “How the giant hole on the sun could wreak HAVOC on Earth: 1.8 MILLION mph solar winds could knock out power grids, disrupt GPS signals and see the skies light up with Northern Lights on Friday”—

    Maybe for a day or two, at least…
    FWIW…
    “WWI’s Christmas Truce: When Fighting Paused for the Holiday;
    “Over Christmas 1914, singing and soccer broke out between British and German forces.”—

  2. Neo,

    I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I hope you have the blu-ray of their Vegas concert titled “One Night Only”. A real tour-du-force at their adult peak with all those amazing live harmonies that are seemingly effortless. One bad spot: I skip over the Celine Dion number. It also helps to have a good sound system for your TV.

  3. Barry, there are several song out about the 1914 Christmas truce, one being a Heavy Metal song.

    Will the demos on Sat be violent? Probably, but no one will face serious charges. I read that the story line on the shooting in Nashville is the fault of the Christians.

  4. Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak and others have signed an open letter calling for a six month pause in further AI development.

    Contemporary AI systems are now becoming human-competitive at general tasks, and we must ask ourselves: Should we let machines flood our information channels with propaganda and untruth? Should we automate away all the jobs, including the fulfilling ones? Should we develop nonhuman minds that might eventually outnumber, outsmart, obsolete and replace us? Should we risk loss of control of our civilization? Such decisions must not be delegated to unelected tech leaders. Powerful AI systems should be developed only once we are confident that their effects will be positive and their risks will be manageable. This confidence must be well justified and increase with the magnitude of a system’s potential effects. OpenAI’s recent statement regarding artificial general intelligence, states that “At some point, it may be important to get independent review before starting to train future systems, and for the most advanced efforts to agree to limit the rate of growth of compute used for creating new models.” We agree. That point is now.

  5. Barry, the group is Sabaton, a Swedish HM band. They do songs about different battles. I am not a fan of HM but they are an interesting group.

  6. I wonder if we’re living in The Garden of Eden.
    I wonder if we’re nibbling on the Tree of Knowledge . . .

  7. om, the big joke is that now they are “blaming” it on Trump, saying he was the one who falsely suggested he was going to be arrested in order to increase his fundraising. As if they haven’t been foaming at the mouth for years for a Trump perp walk, hopefully accompanied by an edifying visual of Orange Man in handcuffs or irons.
