Is this the Democrats’ next move in their pro-transgender, anti-parent crusade?
A Virginia Democrat lawmaker says she will introduce legislation to have parents criminally prosecuted if they do not “affirm” their child as transgender. Teachers and social workers would report parents to Child Protective Services under the bill envisioned by state Delegate Elizabeth Guzman (D-Fauquier).
Guzman told WJLA that “It could be a felony, it could be a misdemeanor, but we know that CPS charge could harm your employment, could harm their education, because nowadays many people do a CPS database search before offering employment.”
Guzman, a social worker, went public with her plans to introduce the bill a week after The Daily Wire reported that a National Association Of School Psychologists official named Amy Cannava boasted that she was working with an unnamed state delegate matching Guzman’s description to craft such legislation. “I want to see a kid in a home with food and shelter and insurance and support, but I also don’t want to lose kids to death,” Cannava said, adding that “I will not deny the fact that I have put parents in their place in my office or at school.”
The talk of losing kids to “death” is a reference to the idea that untreated trans kids will be committing suicide in significant numbers, and that treating them medically by transitioning them will stop this from occurring. This is a very common argument of pro-child transition advocates (and in fact, online pro-trans groups often counsel minors to say they are suicidal even when they’re not, because then transition will happen), although it’s based on faulty data (see this as well as this).
The Virginia bill won’t be passed. But that’s because the House of Delegates in Virginia is presently controlled by Republicans. I can well imagine that in a blue state, such a bill might succeed in the future. And most social workers – who are largely on the left – would probably have no objection to carrying it out.
Her demand should appear in Republican ads across the country.
Perhaps the most obvious proof of the cultural insanity engulfing our decaying republic is the unhinged discourse surrounding “queer theory” and “radical gender ideology”, as well as the entirety of the very recent “trans phenomenon”, all of these forms of madness being connected and mutually reinforcing. Far too many citizens (mostly, of course, Biden-supporters) have been lobotomized into acceptance of this toxic nonsense (far more dangerous than simply a transitory fad), but one cannot help wondering how this is perceived in a country such as China (perhaps soon to supplant us) which, for all its failings and its many faults, is still closer in some ways to rationality.
Social work is a pseudo profession which should be eliminated by law. This is just another exhibit in the case file.

Alan Turing was forced by his progressive government to have a medical procedure that conformed to his sexual preferences. He committed suicide and it was considered a national disgrace as recently as a decade ago. Now the progressives want to bring back forced conformance. These people are just Malthusians, and they don’t care how many lives they destroy so long as there are fewer of them.
This has become a cause celeb for Democrats and I see no evidence that there is a significant part of our population behind it. This has become a fad among adolescent girls and left wing parents. There is no evidence that such “treatment” reduces suicides and much of it is irreversible. It reminds me of the Recovered Memories hysteria in the 1990s. That stopped when a Father successfully sued for malpractice. The whole phenomenon collapsed in a month once malpractice insurance disappeared. This may end the same way.
I was talking with my neighbor the other day and commented to him that sometime in the future some of these kids will be the ones in the news using a weapon on innocent people. They will so messed up.
Virginia Democrats don’t learn, evidently. They lost the Delegates majority over the issue of parents’ involvement in their children’s education. Does this Democrat want the congressional elections to go to Republicans next month? Does she want to lose the Virginia upper house next year? Fine with me, but it’s nuts, politically.

Hah. I think you’re underestimating how many child protective caseworkers (who are not always licensed SW’s) are not culturally predisposed to being gung-ho for the latest progressive fads. They’re often minorities and from middle/lower class backgrounds. Nah, these policies will be top-down, coming from the upper echelons of the city/county governments.

My understanding is that there is some difference between male cross-dressers (who used to be called transvestites, but that term is now considered outdated) and men who consider themselves trans: “Cross-dressers are men who wear female clothing and often both admire and imitate women, but self-identify as different from both gay men and transsexuals . . . ” Men who are sexually aroused by cross-dressing, however, are diagnosed according to DSM-5 as suffering from transvestic disorder, which comes under the larger heading of paraphilia. It gets even more complicated, if you follow the DSM-5 description, which throws autogynephilia (“a male’s propensity to be sexually aroused by the thought of himself as a female”; see https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22005209/) into the mix. Since the shrinks and the endocrinologists and the surgeons are still squabbling over the various types and psychological roots of gender dysphoria and transsexualism, there are no sharp lines between men who are simple cross-dressers (some gay, some straight); those who are sexually aroused by cross-dressing; and those who opt for hormonal and surgical treatment to become transwomen.

It distresses me that EVERYONE sounding the alarm on this idiocy, bloggers and commenters alike, uses the Woke-Progressives’ terminology, thus “normalizing” the concept of “Gender-Affirming Medical Care”. None of those four words describes the evil they are trying to perpetrate.
What they want to do is permanently sterilize children.

The transgender thing is trending this week because Jamie Lee Curtis is pushing the narrative that her transgender "daughter" is getting death threats. There is some serious irony here because Jamie Lee Curtis is genetically male with XY chromosomes. She is an example of Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. I was a resident when her diagnosis was established.
I thought I remembered something about Jamie Lee Curtis, Mike K. But she’s not a “transgender” as it’s being defined. She is a person with a birth defect or biological developmental problem, in which decisions were made and treatments applied to enable her to live life as normally as possible. I think all proposed laws against transgender treatments for children exempt this kind of situation. Her adopted child is presumably a biologically normal male.

@ Art: I’m a social worker. In fact, I’m a school social worker.
Cannava, the school psychologist, is part of the LGBT+ spectrum. Her entire career focuses on serving the LGBT+ student population, and her tone carries the usual self-indignation of her kind. “I will not deny the fact that I have put parents in their place in my office or at school.” Um, okay. The role of the school psychologist tends to be testing kids for SPED to see if they qualify. It’s why they’re called “testing machines.” It’s 90% of what they do. Some do therapeutic work but that’s not usually the case. Therapeutic duties usually goes to either the social worker or counselor. I feel Cannava is working outside her wheelhouse in which she’s trained for, allowing her non-straight self to become bigger than she actually is. She’s an activist disguised as a school psychologist.
Guzman is just your typical overzealous “ally”, not bright enough to critically think about any issue as she deems anything as “abuse” (go read up on her background).
Regarding the potential legislation, if this ever spreads across the nation it will create unwanted tension between the social worker and the parents. Parents are already a pain in the butt to deal with, so this power grab is just that – a power grab in order to boost the egos of “the anointed.”
I’m the rare non-progressive social worker where DCFS calls are made every now and then, but never on the basis of a transgender student not being affirmed by their guardian/parent. I had one student who cross dressed. His mother did not approve so he changed clothes at his aunt’s house before he went to school. Whatever. He never came back with bruises the following day. If any fellow social worker said that was grounds to call DCFS I would’ve said to practice some legit prudence. The reality of the issue, boots on the ground, is that most LGBT+ issues are minority cases. Kids tend to be much more resilient that we think.
The current issue that pervades every public school is being forced to use preferred pronouns in order to keep your job.
In my state, for several years, it’s been a standard for foster parents to affirm the transgender kids in their care. That’s utterly ridiculous. If they don’t? DCFS will come. Remember when the LGBT+ said it was bigotry for Christian adoption agencies to prefer couples of the opposite sex to adopt? I always found that ironic given the fact that parents are being held hostage, their career stalled, just because they don’t affirm their transgender kid. If you’re a potential foster parent you either capitulate to the transgender craze or you cut yourself from the pool. The LGBT+ activists and their “allies” have become what they accuse others of being.
