A few more questions and observations on last night’s speech — 98 Comments

  1. It seems, from various reports, that only CNN and MSNBC chose to carry it; it was entertaining indeed to watch Tucker’s commentary on our current cultural insanity with a silent Biden on split-screen from time to time. It is likely that the principal goal (beyond the demonizing of half the citizenry as “enemies of the state”, “saboteurs and wreckers” in the Soviet jargon) was to provoke some kind of attack which will then provide a pretext for further authoritarian control and even more punitive totalitarian measures.

  2. Here’s the first sentence in today’s post from a noted disaffected Republican who BLOGS EVERY DAY ON POLITICS.

“I was only barely aware that President Biden was giving a prime time speech last night and had forgotten about it by the time he did. It was, apparently, quite a doozy.”

    https://www.outsidethebeltway.com/biden-maga-republicans-threaten-republic/

I’d actually bet this guy is not unusual in the current environment. I’d bet a lot of supposedly politically aware people have essentially checked out because they don’t want their delusions about Trump or their own social class damaged in any way by contact with reality.

    Mike

  3. (a) to spark more January 6th type demonstrations or violence that will retrospectively validate Biden’s words and justify more crackdowns and more denunciations of the right. Probably the FBI is already working on entrapping some bitter clingers and guiding them towards something of the sort. An October surprise? And/or (b) the desired effect might be to spark attacks on Trump-supporters themselves. There’s also (c), to encourage Red-Guard style denunciations of “MAGA Republican” friends and family to authorities, for something or other. And let’s not forget (d) (which I mentioned in today’s previous post), to invalidate the election of so-called “MAGA Republicans” in 2022.

The Biden administration is certainly behaving as if they’re hoping and praying for violence, preferably from the right but they’ll take it from the left too. It’s as if they want to change the subject from all of their failures to all of our failures. They need an existential threat to fight against, and in absense of one they’re trying to invent one.

  4. I think it’s purpose was two-fold.

Play to the base with this little authoritarian/war drama. Some on the left really want a civil war. This was to appease them.

Peel off Republican/Independent voters that liked the policies of the Trump administration. By continuing to raise the cost of supporting these policies. Just speaking out to support anything the former President stands for will be met with derision/condemnation/ostracization.

Whether or not you believe mass formation is a thing, creating an environment of fear in a society that is already suffering from anxiety and the passive/aggressive message that “I have a plan” will have an effect, given the non-stop onslaught of slander on Trump.

If the media continues the message, rather than pauses or tempers the message, the speech worked. As I’ve said before, we’ll have a better picture of President Trump’s electability when we see how candidates that have been endorsed by him fare, especially in the swing states.

  5. the provocation is already in the cake, the murder of peaceful protests, they barely admit to the first, ashley babbitt, who a wretched piece of worm ridden film, named chip berlet, slandered her in vanity fair, the others are unpersonned, the gulag in the Capitol, the siccing of bureau agents on disgruntled parents, yadda yadda, this spectacle is more like an out take from a mel brooks film,

  6. The incident the Dems and media have worked themselves into a frenzy about. Occurred nearly TWO YEARS ago. That does not mean it should be forgotten or ignored. But the fact it has taken this long to work themselves to this point. And they seem to be ratcheting up the rhetoric in spite of the fact that nothing has occurred since. This was a bad one off incident that has had no coat tails. Unlike BLM or Occupy that had looting, assaults etc under that rubric for years.

Another observation is that the most potentially damaging incident that occurred was Jan 5th. Someone planted two bombs in the capital. And yet it seems to have been wiped from their memory. It is never mentioned and there appears to be no impetus to solve it. Despite anyone who apparently talked to, phoned, is somewhat related to, or even Ubered people identified at the capital. Are sitting behind bars.

Now this part may be considered more of a conspiracy theory. But in the last few months I tend to believe it more.
It is pretty clear the FBI was heavily involved in the entire J6 incident. The fact that Ray Epps walks free and unmolested seem to point that way. And he was a heavy instigator.
That said I do not think the alphabet agencies could know this whole thing would be as wildly successful for them as it has been. So their “bomber” was a fall back position had it not worked out. Think about it for one second.
    1) As far as the FBI has stated there have been no leads, and no on identified to this point. Leaked or otherwise. Despite their being physical evidence and numerous video tapes of the subject involved
    2) It is never mentioned. For such a serious incident (much more so that what also happened). There is zero push to move forward any farther by the government or media. If this could be pinned on someone from J6 you can bet your sweet butt they would have already.
    3) Look at the pictures released. The person is perfectly none de-script. Average height, build. Covered well so that you can tell nothing about the subject at all. Race, sex etc.
    4) The bombs themselves look almost cartoonish in their attempt to be ID’ed as such. A metal pipe with a oversized timer on the outside? Making it easy for even the most thick headed to recognize it as such.

With the ways we already know these agencies have doctored evidence, lied, very selectively enforced the laws regarding this. I do not rule this out of the realm of possibility. As sad as that conclusion is at this point

  7. And what is that desired effect anyway?
    _______

Not trying to drum up the vote. It’s a declaration of war. They intend to use force to prevent the Republicans from winning in November. Period.

  8. This is what authoritarian governments do when their policies are failing badly and the public is noticing.

North Korea, Red China, Putin’s Russia and now Biden’s Democrats.

Demonize some people as The Enemy then focus everything into attacks upon The Enemy.

To the extent we aren’t talking about inflation, Biden’s decline, the border, CRT, etc. it’s working. I don’t believe they have one specific objective. It’s all good.

However, I’m happy to report that chocolate rations are up!

  9. (3) Why did the major networks decide not to carry the speech? Did they have an advance copy of the text…

From things that I have seen, yes, they screened the speech and have a gentleman’s agreement that they do not provided time automatically for speeches that are deemed political rather than newsworthy or of national importance.

“The networks, in turn, typically carry presidential speeches when the White House requests the time and after previewing the president’s remarks. However, they have passed on speeches that were part of campaign rallies or events, or when the subject was deemed insufficiently important or newsworthy…. People involved in negotiations over Thursday’s address said the networks deemed Biden’s remarks as ‘political’ in nature and therefore decided not to televise it. These people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive discussions, cited the speech’s criticism of Trump — Biden’s possible political opponent in 2024 — and its timing two months before the midterm elections…”

Althouse excerpting from Paul Farhi in the WaPo

    https://althouse.blogspot.com/2022/09/presidents-rarely-make-speeches-during.html

Whether they declined because they thought it would make Biden look bad, I have not seen indications one way or another. One can only assume they judged it to be without genuine news value.

  10. The red bars of light behind and to either side of Biden’s head reminded me of the wings of the stylized eagle that the Nazis used as one of their symbols on their buildings.

  11. like snoke from the star wars sequel, or red skull before he launches the superbomber at new york

  12. The left has had such great success with inciting unlawful behavior on the right they’ve decided to have the top dog try his hand at inciting republicans or trump voters to lash out against the “deep state”.

The State will crush them. Look at the January 6th defendants…the process is the punishment. Your cell awaits.

Just dare to disagree with where the left is headed and you’re a domestic terrorist.

All that and a “good” reason to cancel the next election.

  13. I’m with Dave Portnoy and Snow on Pine. I saw the image neo posted on another site and honestly assumed that site had photoshopped the image of Biden over a background cartoonishly designed to imitate a Nazi rally. Not until seeing neo’s post here did I know that it was, in fact, real!

    Wow. Interesting times indeed.

  14. I’m guessing it’s a ploy for the midterms. On one front, Schumer is putting money into primary campaigns for Trump-endorsed Republicans. Once they are nominated, Biden is demonizing them to try to solidify opposition in the general election.

I think Biden went too far with this. The visuals, and the text, are, to use his term, “extreme.”

  15. No matter how many Marines they pose behind him.

No matter how many media mouthpieces lie about him.

No matter what the storm troopers in the federal government raid, or whom they attack.

They cannot alter the fact that Joseph Robinette Biden is an immense failure. He has always been mentally mediocre. He has always been an opportunist and a liar; lacking the intelligence to recognize that most see through his transparent schemes.

Lacking the ability to impress anyone with his insufficient abilities he resorts to the last refuge of bullies; force.

  16. Apropos of last night’s hapless Marines: Jonathan Turley has called attention (via Twitter) to the fact that their presence (probably unwilling) as Biden’s stage props is a violation of the Department of Defense’s Directive 1344.10: “SUBJECT: Political Activities by Members of the Armed Forces. . . .

    [p.3] 4.1.2. A member of the Armed Forces on active duty shall not: . . . .

[p.4] 4.1.2.15. Attend partisan political events as an official representative of the Armed Forces, except as a member of a joint Armed Forces color guard at the opening ceremonies of the national conventions of the Republican, Democratic, or other political parties recognized by the Federal Elections Committee or as otherwise authorized by the Secretary concerned.”

IOW, the Marines were there to look intimidating at a one-shot political speech, not as part of a joint military color guard at either the Republican or the Democratic National Convention. If there were soldiers, sailors, airmen, Coast Guardsmen, or Space Force personnel lurking behind the Marines, nobody saw them.

    Full DoD PDF here: https://www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/dodd/134410p.pdf

I don’t have a Twitter account (for many reasons), so can’t give a direct link to Turley’s tweet, but maybe Neo can locate it.

As for adjectives beginning with “m” that could describe the speech, try: mendacious, meretricious, murderous, maddened, mentally challenged, or Mussolinian [a bona fide word]. Milquetoast it was not.

  17. It doesn’t make sense to me that the Biden speech was intended to instigate violence from the right. Stealing an election (I think that happened but am not certain) is a reason for serious action, but a nasty speech isn’t.

My best guess is that they (DOJ and FBI +?) are planning more 5AM raids, indictments, jailings and possibly more election fraud. The speech goes a step further in creating the phantom threat of an ultra MAGA white supremacist revolutionary force.

Neo is smart and wise enough to understand that you don’t tear down the laws of the land to get at the devil you fear or hate, but most people aren’t. Besides, this is how the rule of law is defended, by tearing down, er reinterpreting, the troublesome ones; or so the President tells me.

  18. https://nypost.com/2022/09/01/hypocrite-bidens-speech-was-about-one-thing-only-trying-to-bait-trump/

I think Podhoretz is right. Biden wants Trump to be in the news because that represents Democrats’ best chance in the midterms and their best chance in 2024.

Trump wants to be in the news. Biden and Democrats want Trump to be in the news. Trump wants newbie MAGA candidates to win Republican primaries. Biden and Democrats want newbie MAGA candidates to win Republican primaries.

Trump’s interests and Democrats’ interests have converged.

  19. Those Marines are in the clear since it was not officially a campaign/political event. It was an address to the nation by the President paid for by tax money.

Yes, reality and official pronouncement are not aligned here but that is the the word of Joe.

  20. Kate–

Thank you for the links– Turley’s use of “nutcracker props” to describe the Marines must be painful to all present and past members of the Corps.

  21. The fault does not belong to those two uniformed Marines, but rather to Biden and whoever ordered them to be in that picture.

  22. Brandon and his zimri Himmler Klain want more Reichstag fires.
amazing how 1/6 was child splay compared to the nightly riots all summer of 2020 by Brandons Shutzstaffel

  23. I’m sold. Biden is indeed leading a struggle for the soul of our nation. The picture makes it very clear which side he’s on.

  24. Tucker Carlson’s take is that we’re dealing with another gang that can’t shoot straight. A bunch of keystone cops.

I hope he’s right but I am not persuaded. I think he greatly underestimates the degree of fanatical malevolence among the democrats.

Were they confident that electoral fraud would once again be sufficient, they would have no need for Biden’s vicious rhetoric.

The level of rhetorical demonization of Trump supporters, reveals just how far they’re willing to go. This is not idle, unconsidered talk. This is “preparating the battle space” both in dealing with opposition and crushing the middle class “between the grindstones of taxation and inflation”. Dependency fuels the growth of bureaucracy.

” My best guess is that they (DOJ and FBI +?) are planning more 5AM raids, indictments, jailings and possibly more election fraud. The speech goes a step further in creating the phantom threat of an ultra MAGA white supremacist revolutionary force.” TommyJay

Creating a ‘confirmed’ phantom threat of an ultra MAGA white supremacist movement is the justification in conducting thousands of future 5AM raids, indictments and subsequent jailings. After all, democracy itself is fundamentally threatened.

Conduct enough 5AM raids against frameable innocents and violence will erupt. Double down with 87,000 IRS Agents and many more ATM, FBI and DOJ agents who then meet resistance with deadly force and you get widespread violence in reaction.

Resulting in the plausible justification for pResident Biden declaring Nationwide Martial Law, effective for the ‘duration of the National Emergency’. Under which the suspension of elections will occur and the dismissal of those Congressional Representatives whose terms have expired. Along with the suspension of both Posse Comitatus and Habeas Corpus. There is precedent, so the SC will be sidelined.

Martial Law we’ll also bring with it greatly tightened control of the internet and “Executive Orders” imposing “Hate Speech” restrictions. Tucker Carlson will likely be among the first charged under the new ‘rules’.

There is a real possibility that this is where we’re headed because the left sees holding on to permanent power… as an existential necessity. One demanding they act now while they still can, it being imperative that another Trump never again gain the Presidency.

  25. The references to Nazis occur regularly thru the comments above.

I think they are entirely if unfortunately correct. The Democratic Party has become the Party of Neo-Nazis. But surprise! Before that they were the party of lynchings and segregation.

I have seen this all coming, gradually but inexorably.
The only problem the Neo-Nazis have is they cannot demonize and send to concentration camps more than a small % of the population. Trump is being assaulted on multiple fronts with amazing personal courage.
But this will all blow up somewhere along the line. Non-Dems own some 400 million guns, after all, and Biden’s “F-15s” are not going to bomb and blast American cities, killing Democrats AND Republicans. Our military has an embarrassingly low membership, and our National Guard units will, some of them, refuse a presidential order to attack Americans and herd them like sheep. Biden is another Brezhnev. The end is coming for Biden, though, fool that he is, he does not see that.

An eternity in Hell is a very long time, Joe. But you won’t be lonely; Pelosi, the Clintons, the Obamas, Schumers and your whole rotten present crew, with your entire family and various political scum like Newsom and Hochul, all babykillers, will be there with you.
Of course, Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin and Mao will become best buddies.
I expect there will be enough room in Hell for all these hellions.

  26. Biden went on the offensive. They cannot defend their policies, which are creating chaos and pain for the American people. So, they have to make the character of the GOP an issue. MAGA Republicans are neo-fascists. Alinsky’s rule – “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. ”

They want the GOP on the defensive, trying to refute the charges Biden leveled at them last night. They will depend on the media and pundits to keep the pressure on.

I think it’s quite easy to refute their accusations of fascism and then get on with attacking the Democrat policies and failures. Just don’t get sidetracked and spend all the time on defense.

  27. JJ et al., FWIW: Brandon’s speech must have polled badly even among Dems, because he did the backward crab walk today: President Biden on Friday tried to walk back some of the fiery political rhetoric from his primetime speech in Philadelphia a night earlier, denying that he attacked Donald Trump voters despite having repeatedly slammed “MAGA Republicans” allied with the former president. “Do you consider all Trump supporters to be a threat to this country?” a reporter asked Biden at the end of his only scheduled public remarks of the day. “Come on, look, guys, you keep trying to make that case. I don’t consider any Trump supporter to be a threat to the country,” Biden said.

    https://nypost.com/2022/09/02/biden-walks-back-attacks-on-trump-voters-in-anti-maga-speech/

I’m pretty sure the reporter mentioned above is Peter Doocy.

  28. Adopt Nazi décor and people will think you are a Nazi. Why did Biden’s team do this? Either they were taken in by the Dark Brandon meme and thought large numbers of people felt positively about it, or (more likely) they assumed that everyone would still love kindly old Grandpa Joe and associate the dark imagery only with Trump and MAGA. The problem is, when you go in for simplistic imagery, the audience doesn’t come to complicated conclusions … or perhaps viewers did come to the complicated conclusion that Biden was everything he was warning us against.

  29. FYI: The next two months before the midterms are going to be more and more crazy and evil-crazy.

We are just seeing the appetizers. I hate to think of the main courses, but unless Dem poll numbers go up and stay up, it will get worse.

  30. So is “Dr” Jill going to be the new Eva Peron?

The other Eva (Braun) was much better looking than “Dr.” Jill.

  31. I fully expect that upon the Red Wave this November, the Biden Regime will declare Martial Law. A suspension of Congress from taking their seats because: MAGA.
    Can’t have domestic terrorists seated.
    Then what?

  32. If Martial Law and revocation of the Constitution is to happen a pretext is all that is needed. Why wait until January 2023, one can be manufactured before then.

The penalty for treason is pretty severe, however.

  33. So, do you think that they’ve already printed up the signup sheets for “Biden Youth?”

  34. FYI: The next two months before the midterms are going to be more and more crazy and evil-crazy.

I agree and anything can happen. Democrats have convinced themselves that only they are allowed to vote. HR 1 was a bill to throw out all state election laws. It did not pass but it might in the next two months.

  35. Apparently “Dark Brandon and the Triumph of the Will” got poor reviews. Today Biden walked back the meat of yesterday’s rant.
    ___________________________

Doocy: “Do you consider all Trump supporters to be a threat to the country?”

Biden: “I don’t consider any Trump supporter a threat to the country.”

    https://pjmedia.com/columns/stacey-lennox/2022/09/02/biden-blows-up-the-carefully-constructed-narrative-in-less-than-24-hours-n1626518
    ___________________________

But you can’t keep a bad man down. Dark Brandon will be back, probably with less fascist lighting.

  36. PACat, I saw that tonight. A bit like his denial that the military brass advised against the hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan. He is lying……………or, he really is so senile he doesn’t remember what he said last night. Either way, it’s typical of Biden. He’s long been a prevaricator and now he’s senile. The media will try to spin it in his favor.

It’s time for the GOP to go on offense.

  37. And on a lighter note; what does David French think of herr Brandon’s call to aktion?

    Lying low.

  38. I really think that this speech is something that Biden will not be able to explain away or to live down. The Internet is forever.

I am not aware of any other speech by a President of the United States that is even anywhere near as threatening to his opponents–to conservative Republicans, to Independents, and to conservative Democrats–U.S. citizens and voters all–as last night’s speech by Biden was.

It broke new ground for a U.S. President, and not in a good way.

  39. Are exeter or andover alum just getting stupider i know he doesnt want ti be hung in effigy like stephens

  40. @ PA Cat & Kate > I’ve been looking for someone to mention what Turley pointed out in his NY Post article: the hypocrisy of the Democrats was also on display.
    https://nypost.com/2022/09/02/no-way-biden-shouldve-used-marines-as-props-for-his-hyper-political-speech/

Yet what is interesting is the relative silence of most in the media on the use of these Marines as virtual nutcracker props for a political speech. The media overwhelmingly condemned Trump for his picture in front of St. John’s Church after the clearing of Lafayette Park in 2020. Later, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark A. Milley apologized for being in the photo, declaring, “My presence in that moment and in that environment created a perception of the military involved in domestic politics.”

Milley has been silent on not just the use of the Marine Band but individual Marines at a speech in which Biden denounced political opponents as threats to “the very foundations of our republic” and part of what he has repeatedly called a “semi-fascist” movement. (Apparently, nothing says you’re against fascism as much as labeling your opponents enemies of the state with Marines on either side of you.)

The message to other military personnel, particularly other Marines, is that support for the president’s opponents is considered a threat to the constitutional Republic.

  41. @ M Smith > “Adopt Nazi décor and people will think you are a Nazi. Why did Biden’s team do this? Either they were taken in by the Dark Brandon meme and thought large numbers of people felt positively about it, or (more likely) they assumed that everyone would still love kindly old Grandpa Joe and associate the dark imagery only with Trump and MAGA.”

I’ve noticed a lot of ads, both commercial and political, make the mistake of playing up the negative aspects of their opponents, but don’t realize the viewers (especially if not paying close attention) most likely make the negative connection with the sponsor’s name or brand. Not good.

I read a third suggestion today (h/t junior at Hoyt yesterday), which boiled down to plain old incompetence: wider shots show a blue band of light on one side of the “stage” and the possibility that there was a white band on the other side, with Joe in the middle in red. But zooming in on him for the speech cut off the other two “flag” colors.

The picture at the top of this post does show the blue light on one side.
    https://legalinsurrection.com/2022/09/biden-walks-back-maga-republicans-are-a-threat-claim-beclowning-sycophantic-media-and-never-trumpers/

If all three patriotic colors were use, then it was stupid not to have the white light in the middle.

  42. Sundowner played on the insurrectionist story, everything he said is the premise of the Jan6 Kangaroo Court and Garland’s Gulag with 800 people arrested and quite a number convicted.

  43. Okay – color revolution update.
    There were only 2 lights.
    https://twitchy.com/sarahd-313035/2022/09/02/wapos-framing-of-joe-bidens-deranged-speech-explains-why-the-corporate-press-are-the-enemy-of-the-people/
    (from WaPo)

Biden spoke before the majestic backdrop of Independence Hall, colored by red and blue spotlights, where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were shaped. Uniformed Marines stood on each side of the hall’s main door and large American flags were unfurled behind the president.

  44. If your opponent is evil, or immoral, and threatens you, your family, and your way of life, then any action in opposition to them is justified. There may be some “MAGA” supporters who understand this and decide to act first, further justifying suppression, arrest, etc. Don’t take the bait.

  45. The dems and the entire Deep State are riding the tiger. They have been completely exposed, and many of them know that not only will their game be up, but they will be spending a very long time in prison if they ever permit themselves to be removed from power. So in power they will stay–by any means necessary, as they like to say.

  46. (5) Megamanical
    https://www.vocabulary.com › dictionary › megalomaniac
    Megalomaniac – Definition, Meaning & Synonyms | Vocabulary.com
A megalomaniac is a pathological egotist, that is, someone with a psychological disorder with symptoms like delusions of grandeur and an obsession with power. We also use the word megalomaniac more informally for people who behave as if they’re convinced of their absolute power and greatness.

  47. Violence was a key factor in their 2020 success, the mayhem exhausted the public enough that no one wanted to question the election if that would lead to more mayhem. So yes, they likely want to repeat it by signaling to their minions. Why a speech instead of a few phone calls I don’t know.

  48. Adjust your tinfoil hats….

What if this is a multi-level play? The idea is to get Biden out. This is so absolutely awful that even some Dems vote to impeach, putting Harris in the top spot. (Or, better, they replace her right after mid-terms, THEN do this.) This makes them look like protectors of the realm and such. But, of course, to combat all these sorts of things, a really strong unitary executive is necessary. And they tighten the ratchets even further.

    It’s a theory.

  49. Prepare to have your bank accounts frozen. We’ve seen this page of the playbook before: not so long ago in Canada, where non-violent truck drivers peacefully protesting were called nazis by a true modern fascist as an impetus to crush them.

  50. Interestingly, Friday night’s CBS Evening News had zero coverage of the speech. Guess CBS was on damage control.

  51. I’m amazed that no one seems to remember the “insurrection” on January 20th, 2017, where cars were burned, Madonna wanted to burn down the White House, and people were running around with Vagina Hats decrying the illegitimate election of 2016. Just because it didn’t end up in the Capitol doesn’t make it insignificant.

  52. If all three patriotic colors were use, then it was stupid not to have the white light in the middle.

This is the Spinal Tap presidency. It’s like they wrote 13″ instead of 13′.

  53. It seems like there is always a prediction that a president will declare martial law and suspend the elections. That sort of thing could touch off big violence. I suspect Biden’s team will do everything but that. They’ll walk as close as they can to the edge and try not to fall in.

  54. “Some people on the right say this speech smacks of desperation. I don’t see it that way. In my previous post today, I wrote that it is merely an escalation in a long line of rhetoric demonizing Republican voters.”

They can be one and the same. The escalation isn’t having the desired effect, the junta is becoming desperate, ups the ante to further escalate, doesn’t have desired effect . . . lather, rinse, repeat.

  55. Perhaps a lot of younger people, ignorant of history, but steeped in video games, were involved in and thought that their staging of this speech was the coolest thing, not realizing it’s menacing Hitlerian vibe?

Or, alternatively, perhaps this threatening Hitlerian vibe was exactly the look that they were consciously striving for.

  56. I think this is the most likely reason for the speech: they know they are losing some dems and most of the inds, to the reps. Biden’s main purpose is to make us toxic so as to stem the migration. By stigmatizing us, some of them will be reluctant to move.

It is the same tactic they use when a minority like Candace Owens or Clarence Thomas or Miguel Estrada or now, Kristina Karamo or Mayra Flores, steps out with an independent, thoughtful message. The dems view leaving the plantation as a capital offense and they bring down holy hell to make them an example so others will be less likely to follow along. It is so despicable and they justify it as politics.

But, Biden would also just love to provoke some kind of violence. I am concerned our FBI might be in the process of provoking that right now, based on their sad history of pulling false flag operations in Michigan and elsewhere.

  57. The color change is *very* subtle. Intentional or not, hard to believe it affected anyone. I jumped around with the video’s progress bar, and I *did* notice Biden appears a *bit* pinker at the end. My speculation is that some technician or engineer thought his flesh tones were off a bit and adjusted the color *very* slightly. I also speculate that big areas of a saturated color can slightly affect colors on the rest of the camera’s sensor.

  58. I think this is the most likely reason for the speech: they know they are losing some dems and most of the inds, to the reps.

    –One of Four

But what else are they going to do but demonize and attack?

If they could end inflation or stop Putin or create flourishing blue cities, they would, wouldn’t they? (Without compromising their sacred, crazy, unrealistic ideals, at least.)

But they can’t do that. And they can’t persuade anyone outside their bubble either.

So, like all failing authoritarian regimes, they demonize and attack to stay in power.

  59. Someone had to make decisions concerning the setting. Why any administration would chose to elicit Nazi settings is stunning in its wholesale ignorance of history. As an alternative to stupidity, one might consider illiteracy, i.e., no familiarity with or ability to read history.

  60. Never underestimate Brandon’s ability to “F” things up.

Unfortunately, the nation is collateral damage to this junta.

  61. The Dems are setting up their vote-fraud shenanigans for November. It’ll be totally justified, you see, because “Our Democracy” is at stake. And it’s cute how “accepting the outcome of ‘free and fair’ elections” is now required. The only free and fair elections for Dems are those that they win. That was all projection.

  62. The purpose of the speech was simple:
Divert attention from gasoline prices, electricity shortages, baby formula shortages, border ineptitude, homeless, doubling interest rates, crime…

  63. Someone had to make decisions concerning the setting. Why any administration would chose to elicit Nazi settings is stunning in its wholesale ignorance of history. As an alternative to stupidity, one might consider illiteracy, i.e., no familiarity with or ability to read history.

At best, parrot history … the “soul of the nation” rhetoric is a recycling of a 2020 Biden campaign slogan, I’ve learned.

Anne, someone needs to ask Joe what he thinks “unalienable” means.

  64. Anne Kane:

I ran into an amusing theory that they were trying to make a joke of the Dark Brandon meme. Like some feminists tried to transform “slut” into a sassy badge of honor.

BTW Dark Brandon is an allusion to the famous X-Men “Dark Phoenix” storyline, which was an epic big deal in 1980. The late 70s reboot of the “X-Men” was the hottest series going in comics and Jean Grey, the psychic X-Woman, apparently dies but resurrects herself as a pure energy being with god-like powers, calling herself “Phoenix.”

Then she goes to the dark side and becomes “Dark Phoenix.” She carelessly consumes a star, killing a planet containing billions of people who looked like celery stalks. The head editor at Marvel didn’t notice until after the issue was published. So “Dark Phoenix” had to die.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Phoenix_Saga

I wish I didn’t sell those issues to the comic store.

  65. Two movies, one screen. Sam Harris looks at Biden but sees Trump (you can’t make this stuff up).

  66. The problem for those who staged this speech is that just too many people are still around who remember or are very aware of Hitler, the Nazis and what they did, and all of their deliberate symbology.

  67. “in Canada, where non-violent truck drivers peacefully protesting were called nazis”

No one will convince me that this is not where Brandon picked up the idea of semi fascists.

  68. Impudent. Baaad.

Have a relation in Michigan’s “up north” near Antrim County, home of the first reports of flipped votes. Turns out that, since it was a human error or something, it cannot possibly be done on purpose. I was relieved.

She said she’s afraid to drive through Antrim County, all those guys with rifles out in the woods. Asked how many had been killed. She looked at me, stunned. “Why do you want people to be shot?”

I kind of doubt she’d uphold any idea of law if the Bad Trumpists were the ones being victimized. Nor do I think she’d hesitate even an instant if the same were applied to her. She’s not a hypocrite. She wouldn’t see the connection. Her world view has made her artificially stupid.

I know others like her. They have no problem buying the “extremist” “threat”. Because they already believe it. Have for years.

What Biden has done is signal the thugs to get started and nothing will happen to them. He already has the crowds lined up in support.

  69. @ Aubrey > “What Biden has done is signal the thugs to get started and nothing will happen to them. He already has the crowds lined up in support.”

Sadly, I believe this is true.
Note that Hitler didn’t go full-bore until AFTER he got legal authority to do so.
People who would be Nazis are always with us; appropriate laws and their enforcement generally keep them from getting too far out on the crazy trail.

Giving them permission — in a “virtuous cause” — is how totalitarians roll.

Our legal system has broken down in too many places, with help from the leftists (and now even regular people) carrying the sledgehammers.

  70. Less is more: Over decades, Rat doctrinaires from terminally dumbed-down IV League and other parasitic rentier schools [we’re one] have devolved from Pareto’s doers to talkers 1 : 4.

Notoriously feministical in personnel, irremediably infested with “math is hard” tropes inimical to any non-gossipy, objective thinking whatsoever, these conceited, craven kaffee-klatchers have no legacy to offer anyone.

In context-and-perspective, we attribute this dry-rot “macular degeneration” specifically to Wilson’s Tytler Calumny assaults on federalism (Amendments XVI, XVII plus XIX, removing not just the means but the incentive to defend the country, not just from foreign enemies but from those within. Absent TR’s split-the-vote Bull Moosers, Taft’s 1912 re-election would have continued the 12-term anti-Dixiecrat (read anti-demagogic, KKK) era from 1860.

Precisely the requisite three 36-year socio-cultural epochs later (2020), “the best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity” (Yeats, 1919). From non-existent “climate emergency” via CO-2 emissions –see Greenpeace founder Patrick Moore, Nobelist Ivar Gaiever’s 1,200-signatory “World Climate Declaration” this August– to Davos/WEF’s anti-natalist, de-industrialization commissars, Corporate Statists’ blackshirt thuggeries are strutting their last scene.

As in 1789, 1848, 1917, democidal oppression goes only so far. When 80% of a polity faces life-or-death for no reason but psychopathic misfits’ ukase, the game is up.

  71. @ huxley > “I ran into an amusing theory that they were trying to make a joke of the Dark Brandon meme.”
The pundits have all got the memo.

I noticed the connection almost immediately, as did the Huns & Hoydens.

Sad as it seems, I believe that their woke memester-wannabes seriously thought this was a great display of The Power of Dark Brandon. And their useful idiots are lapping it up, so although mockery is certainly in order, remember that there are a lot of people who agree with the speech, hated Trump already and have extended that to all Republicans, and will be ready to kill you when the word comes.
They may do it regretfully or gleefully, but they will do it.

I saw “It sounded better in the original German” in a comment at Legal Insurrection, but it also seems to be going around.

  72. It looks like Biden’s Nuremberg Rally failed. Even those, like Sam Harris, who approve MAGA demonization and consider it to be The Truth, winced at the optics.

Furthermore, Trump and his supporters kept their powder dry and did not fire upon Fort Sumter.

  73. I can’t remember if I posted this here before but this has numbers as of the day of posting

Fun facts to do with what you will:
    USSR Leaves Afghanistan: 02/15/89
    USSR Collapses: 12/26/91
    Days elapsed: 1044

    US Leaves Afghanistan: 08/30/21
    US date + 1044 days: 07/09/24
    Days until that date: 675

  75. This speech was so bad, so over the line–speech and optics so easily comparable to something Hitlerian–that I think it will leave an indelible stain, an unbreakable association of this speech with Biden, with Biden which–no matter what excuses he or others make, no matter what distancing technique he or they may try–will never go away.

If I were a Democrat I would be running away from Biden and this speech as fast and as far as I could.

  76. Obama had one of the best marketing organizations of all time. Obama is still influencing this administration. Lots of Obama people in the WH. Was this bizarre speech a misstep?

  77. @ Theo > a misstep only in that they didn’t get what they wanted, which was an immediate violent reaction from the Right (as huxley noted).
They still don’t understand conservatives, and only know what they would have done (and did).

Perhaps they believe their own propaganda about the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and other organizations that they have dubbed extremists (which are not), and really do think they are the equivalent of Antifa and the BLM rioters.

But we’re more like this – MAGA YMCA

OTOH, it’s possible that Obama’s people weren’t really as good as they looked 10 years ago, just different from the usual political fare; or, the ones staffing Biden Inc aren’t the marketing people.

  79. @ Matt > “John C. Wright has taken a transcript of the speech and substituted just two terms. When you do that – it could easily have been given by a Nazi.”

You should have given a spoiler alert!
That was rather devastating, wasn’t it?
There were some good comments at the post also.

Sarah Hoyt makes a different substitution, that also works pretty well.

The speech with a name and a group name changed:
There’s no question that the Republic today is dominated, driven, intimidated by Yoda and the Jedi Order. And that is a threat to this Empire. The Jedi Order have made their choice. They embrace anger. They thrive on chaos. They live not in the light of truth, but in the shadow of lies. Together, we can choose a…. different path.
oo much of what’s happening in our galaxy today is not normal… Yoda and the Jedi Order represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Empire.

  80. OK, OK, AesopFan — I give in!

As much as I know and fear this appalling, nakedly destructive seriousness — I’m too detached not to also LAUGH hysterically. First, I’m outside the US. Second, my computer software failure has cut me completely off sound from talk or news for 3+ days. Thus, please excuse my juvenile theatrics.

My favorite collection of jokes seems to come from comments at the Black Pigeon Speaks ripost on YouTube, which I can only read as Close Captions.

The first comes from an Irishman who is in Ireland and watched Biden’s speech with his mouth fallen on the floor.

His declaration continues: then I thought OMGGGGGGGGG — “make it stop!” “Somebody…please make it stop!”

As I went on reading more in similar disbelief, my — by now schizoid — self tells me how unreal and Pythonesque this pantomime horse hockey remains. Can real people truly take these retards in DC seriously? After the night in Philadelphia of September 1st? READ more comments here

Finally, there is the dangerously contradictory character of former AG William Barr, who cannot decide if he’s against the tyrannical left or for it, because he enjoys being on two sides of a binary choice too completely not to turn him into a donkey’s arse.

Here’s Mark Judge unravelling his eminence https://stream.org/william-barr-whose-side-are-you-on/
