  1. Off topic. I need advice on Disqus. It is not loading so that I can see comments on other Blogs like Instapundit. I tried reloading Disqus at it’s site, but still no luck. Any ideas?
    Thanks

  2. Powerlineblog asks the question “Is leftism a mental disorder?”

    Some thoughts:

    1. Since nearly every Democrat in Congress is fully on board with the leftist agenda, it would be equally appropriate to ask the question of the Democrat party.

    2. I think it more apt to ask if it is a moral disorder. Because ultimately the insanity is due to a moral failing or moral defect.

    3. Does hatred make people stupid? Does intense hatred make people irrational to the point of insanity?

    4. Why has there been so little discussion of this issue — Democrats clearly hate and deeply (can anyone even argue that?). How much of the chaos in policy and execution due to that hatred? How big is its role?

5, A number of sober, wise commentators on the right have noted for decades that the left regularly engages in projection. I think they are correct about projection. The right is routinely slandered as haters, as terror threats, as threats to our democracy, etc. Why don’t we discuss the hate on the left?

    6. Jonathon Haidt and his fellow researchers discovered that those on the left genuinely have no idea how conservatives and moderates think while conservatives and moderates very clearly understand how liberals think. I’ve always been a bit surprised that there doesn’t seem to have been much follow-up to that finding. It seems to offer a lot of explanatory power for much of the insanity and hatred. The lefties were so wildly inaccurate in predicting how others would answer the questions because they always attributed the worst motives to those who disagree. It shows the moral defect in the left. It shows how much they hate.

Thoughts? (I’ll go try to dig up the Haidt research to post a link)

  3. A quick search pulled up this blog post with a long quote from Haidt’s book, the Righteous Mind. Haidt, bless his heart, often fumbles his efforts to explain because he is a liberal who tries to be fair, but really doesn’t understand conservative arguments at all (I guess he is proof of his own finding), But the research is clear.

I have used the metaphor of a small child playing peek-a-boo. Because of his immaturity he doesn’t yet have the capability to understand that there a perspectives different from his own. If he can’t see you, you can’t see him.

A morally mature adult understands that people aren’t evil simply because they have different values, view the facts differently, or evaluate the benefits/costs of policy options differently. It is possible to be a loving, kind, compassionate person and disagree with a liberal.

A morally mature adult also understands that we are all flawed, foolish, ignorant and often stupid. Given that, some grace toward others is appropriate.

  4. What the beautiful Japanese wife prepares and eats in a day, lovely food, well prepared and presented in a delightful way. It says a lot about a person’s sense of self when care is taken with food, blessings for the food and enjoyment in eating each meal. Thank you

  5. Cool video Neo. I love those ornate chop sticks.

Some months ago I noticed that the mostly left wingers at CNBC were commenting on the Biden admin’s war on natural gas. Apparently, at least one of the them was something of a chef and she was hyperventilating a bit. We’re supposed to cook without natural gas?! This can’t be true!

  6. The outrage du jour from the my lefty friends on FB today is the SCOTUS high school coach case. The general take is that SCOTUS now allows the coercion by the Christian right of students to force them into Christianity. Somehow, the coach by himself engaging in prayer, and then the decision later on by some students to join him was all due to his coercion of those students. The coercion (the word was used over and over) was because no 16 year old is going to go against his coach, and the coach should have been fired for violating the student’s freedom of religion.

  7. No coercion regarding other thought crimes by the left such as climate change, trans madness, systemic racism, speech as violence, safe spaces, abortion, …..? Nothing to see.

  8. I thought the football coach walked a little close to the line myself. One factor was that the coach was doing this after the game was over. Everybody is leaving including the players. It seems a little closer to “my own time.”

There were also claims that the coach verbally extolled the independence of the players who did not pray and advanced the position of one or more of them within the team.

None of that will stop the outrage or hyperbole. It’s a SCOTUS Catholic cabal! But I repeat myself.

  9. If the horrible migrant deaths had happened on Trump’s watch, the op-eds would be all ‘blood on his hands’. Now, not one mention of the Biden/Harris border policy. Proof once again, as if we need it, that the leftists don’t really give a shit about minority lives, or any lives for that matter, that don’t advance their agenda.
November can’t come fast enough for me.

  10. Regarding the Kennedy vs Bremerton case (the praying coach), I’ve seen at least two very different versions of this case presented, of the events leading up to the dismissal. I don’t take issue with the judgment at all, but the way it’s being trotted out as a vindication by conservatives, I’m not sure it’s as purely principled as it’s being made out to be. I want to learn more background before I make my mind up.

  11. Food looks great and tasty – but oh my, there must be 4000+ mg sodium in those meals (combined).

  12. Stan…if I may…
Try answering your question with, “It’s a spiritual disorder.”
The globalist “left” is rabidly anti-Christian. Fully in league with evil makes hate, child sacrifice, murder, chaos, the trans-pedo-pride alliance…all possible.

    Off topic . . . .

Off topic in an “open” thread???

  14. Jim…mine’s kept me for 33 years…I reckon I’m almost trained well enough for her to keep forever.
    😉

  15. I’m working my way through film adaptations of “Hamlet” — I’m currently on the 2000 version with Ethan Hawke as young Hamlet, set in NYC during the dotcom boom. His father was CEO of the “Denmark Corporation” with everything else so transposed.

You could call it a gimmick, but it’s not bad. Often quite fun in fact.

For instance, when Ethan Hawke does the “To be or not to be” monologue, he is wearing one of those silly, yet fashionable, Peruvian flap hats and walking down the aisle of a video store. The aisle on both sides is repeatedly labeled in bright red letters “ACTION.”

But my favorite touch is Bill Murray playing Polonius. For me, after multiple exposures, Polonius is a somewhat annoying, sort of well-meaning, meddling busybody, who predictably makes things worse.

    Just Bill Murray’s meat!

During the big, early scene when Polonius gives his paternal advice — iconic Shakespeare stuff about borrowers, lenders, to thine own self be true — Bill Murray is desperately chasing his son around the apartment, as the son is trying to pack for a trip to France.

  16. Here’s a helpful tip any time you see the mainstream media reporting something close to the truth: Always ask who is telling them it is okay to do so.

The worst media treatment Biden has received so far was over the botched Afghanistan withdrawal. That’s because the Deep State military-industrial complex told their reporter/sycophants that Biden had really screwed up.

Now the media is calling today’s Jan. 6 star witness a liar, just hours after her testimony. Why? Because someone at the Secret Service realized her story described the SS as not only refusing to follow direct orders from a President but of essentially kidnapping him. AND NOBODY IN THE MEDIA WAS SMART ENOUGH TO REALIZE THAT UNTIL THEY WERE TOLD.

  17. Quite possibly the world’s most attractive women on average all placed in a country where the men quite possibly have higher levels of conscientiousness and higher levels of technical competence than you find anywhere else. And these men and women have lost interest in each other and have lost interest in producing the next generation. It seems like something more out of the imagination of P.D. James than of a real place in the world.
