What did the people who promoted Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee think was going to happen if he was elected? — 45 Comments

  1. Short term thinkers, I think they have a very high opinion of themselves, their intellects, their capabilities, their savvy, and just told themselves that everything would somehow “turn out all right,” not wanting to look too closely at just what steps they might have to take–or their practicality–to make that “all right” situation become a reality, and ignoring the likelihood that “shit happens,” and unanticipated things might interfere with their plans.

Magical thinking; thinking something makes it so.

  2. Yes, short-term thinking, or no thinking at all. Getting rid of Trump would make them so popular that everything would work out fine.

  3. I agree that those now in power grossly overestimated their intelligence and ability to master events. They are the equivalent of a bunch of junior Harvard professors trying to run a big corporation.

  4. The first response to a loved one’s cognitive decline is typically denial, since dementia is too hideous to contemplate. But it doesn’t get better.

  5. Does the actual average Democrat voter have deep political thoughts?
“ Defund the police”, because nothing could go wrong with that…
I wonder what the next big fad will be on the left, once the transgenderism is cool fad dies down?

  6. The fear of Trump and Deplorables was at fever pitch.
And indeed, after the election Dems mostly repealed Trump policies wholesale with no thought towards whether repeal made sense (XL pipeline. First day).

Scott Atlas’ excellent book on Covid policy suggests, but does not state outright, that bad decisions were made in order to undermine Trump. That was perhaps the highest consideration.
Trump’s policies were working very well. The world was peaceful, the economy grew by leaps and bounds for ALL segments of the population. If allowed to continues then people could not be pried from their gas-powered cars in order to stop Global Warming. All the conspiracy theories (“Bill Gates plan to depopulate the Earth”) are due to the Covid policies making no sense whatsoever. Vinay Prasad MD, a quite liberal Dem, posts mocking sarcastic YouTube vids pretty much daily saying that the CDC and other gov’t health orgs have been unbelievably incoherent and incompetent. He doesn’t go to the next step though: why?
    I’m torn by 2 possibilities:
    1) a vast, grim, evil conspiracy
    2) “because we can”, the lockstep convergence of Dem Party, MSM, Big Tech, celebs, professoriate, etc has given power which is seized in order to “do stuff”, though without always much thought. They revel in the power and argue about which issues have priority. But it’s just “kid in a candy store”, nothing to counter balance them and nothing planned.

  7. Jon baker:

Normalization of pedophillia, incest, bestiality, and necrophilia. They are all there in the emanations of the penumbra, or not.

  8. “…Trump’s policies were working very well. The world was peaceful, the economy grew by leaps and bounds for ALL segments of the population….”

Yes, that’s PRECISELY what the problem was.

…And why Trump could not be ALLOWED to be reelected.

  9. I think a big part of it was they started to believe their own BS about Trump. They convinced themselves that he really was as stupid and incompetent as they were saying. Therefore they of course believed anything they did would be worlds better than what was done under the Trump admin and of course Biden would be better. I mean you have Mayor Pete becoming secretary of transportation and then taking 2-3 months off to adopt a kid. He probably thought it’d be easy because if Trump could run this how hard could it be? So of course he’d figure even his half assed effort would be better.(The Biden admin was probably cool with it as well so go ahead and take time off right at the beginning.) Of course we’re seeing it’s actually decently tough.

  10. “…anything they did would be worlds better…”

Alas, this appears to suffer from a misconception.
Since the Democrats have absolutely no intention of making anything “worlds better” (except in a dystopic, hyper-criminally motivated, Orwellian manner…and to pay off their supporters… and the media).

IOW, while it is perfectly natural to believe that “success” is “success” (or that “success” means “success”), the misconception is the failure to understand that for the Democrats, “success” means “utter destruction”.

(Though if one feels a bit uneasy about “utter destruction” we could always substitute “fundamental transformation”…to make it more palatable….)

  11. The Neil Oliver commentary is really good especially about the last 4 minutes when he talks about how all this stuff doesn’t seem to matter when only a couple of years ago it would have been totally beyond the pale. The president has dementia, the president’s son has taken millions from our geopolitical rivals, gov’ts have forced people to take medicines, gov’ts have forced people to wear certain clothing. None of it SEEMS to matter right now.

    But will it eventually?

  12. “…..But they didn’t bargain for their own inability to run a government competently. Bad judgment all around…..”

    Neo, sorry, but I disagree.
They actually believe they are running the govt competently !!
In fact, they are doing everything everybody expected them to do. Their policies have been intentional and purposeful.

The ONLY thing they underestimated was the public’s reactions to their policies, that’s it. And the only reason they care about that is they know it may cause them to lose – big time – the next election.
If the polls were in their favor, don’t think for one second they would be changing any of their policies.

They WANT gasoline a $5 / gallon; they want Israel to be “taught a lesson” for creating all the problems in the mideast; they want to allow Iran to have nukes because it will make them a peace loving nation; they want to destroy the US oil and gas industry; they want 10 million illegals crossing the border from Mexico, they actually believe in the “new monetary policy” which states that the govt. can print and spend as much money as they choose, as long as there is no inflation, etc. etc.
EVERY policy they desire, they have enacted or attempted to enact.

The loss of political power is the ONLY thing that concerns them. If they have to backtrack a bit from their hate-the-USA policies, they will. But only because they have to, not because they want to or because they believe their policies are misguided.

Their vision of the USA is directly in accord with that of Bernie Sanders , AOC and the rest of the hardcore, leftist, Marxist “squad.”

As I read somewhere else, the USA can be placed on the correct path pretty quickly if a few hundred individuals of a certain political persuasion receive a bullet in the back of their heads.

  13. I have to echo the view that no actual thinking was involved. I think it’s almost impossible for those of us on the outside to fully understand how genuinely deranged and damaged a good portion of our political class has become through a combination of income inequality, social media obsession, polarization, and Donald Trump making them feel bad about the size of their metaphorical packages.

Just look at the sheer craziness of the response to Elon Musk trying to buy Twitter. Adult professionals who work in journalism completely freaked the ‘f out over the possibility their favorite social media site might actually stop banning people and censoring posts. Not that THEY would be banned or censored but that the banning and censoring of people they don’t like would end.

    Mike

  14. Those who write if such solutions don’t seem to have read any history or to conceive that they too can be on the receiving end.

  15. “…genuinely deranged and damaged…”

    Well yes.

I think the problem is stems from their need to have demonized Trump or 24/7 (and then overtime as well) for—let’s call it—“practical” reasons; and then starting to believe all their manufactured, “home-grown” BS, converting—naturally—their enormous quantities of ordure and garbage into a vicious cycle of fear, loathing, paranoia, psychosis, aggression and the resultant need to jettison any vestige of truth, the resultant loss of sanity, judgment and responsibility

(After all, what good is “truth”—or the law, for that matter—if it’s merely a tool to enable that orange-haired devil to remain in the WH?)

Thus “truth”—and the Constitution—are obstacles to everything good—and especially an obstacle to the Democrats regaining power. Total power.

Truth, the Constitution, honesty…feh, who needs ’em?

(And as noted, the Elon Musk eye-opener is similar, viz. “If Twitter can’t be relied upon to censor, cancel and shut down our ideological opponents, then what good is it???”)
    https://reason.com/2022/04/14/gatekeepers-very-afraid-that-elon-musk-will-remove-the-gates-from-twitter/

  16. I talk with liberals. The answer among those is number 3. “Don’t worry, he will be surrounded by 10 experts who will decide things. They won’t let him do anything really bad”.
    And yet I still worried. . .

  17. Basically, believing that ANYTHING would be better than Trump. (I wish I still had the link where I am Spartacus had a list of 20 Trump accomplishments to ask Demos which of those 20 accomplishments they objected to.)

I am reminded of the e-mail my Demo brother sent out after the election. Biden, he told us, would unite us. Which indicates that my brother is a LIV who wasn’t aware of numerous Biden jabs at Republicans, such as Biden telling black voters that Republicans want to put them back in chains. Yup, really a unifier.

  18. Biden telling black voters that Republicans want to put them back in chains.

Or Biden saying “poor kids can be just as smart as white kids” which implies poor people aren’t white, IE they’re black. Also that while they can be as smart, in generally they’re not. Some how after saying that they can still tell me Joe isn’t racist. That reminds me, how many times has the N-Word slipped out of his mouth. It’s been at least 2 right? Oh I’m sorry, that’s a “stutter”, not dementia causing him not to be able to keep it in. I’ll be hardly surprised if it slips out a few more times by the time he’s done. (All he had to do was say “Black kids are as smart as white” and he wouldn’t have revealed his racism.)

  19. Because he could beat Trump. Probably didn’t enter into it other than very superficially. Given the level and the reserve levels of cheating and corruption they had and have they could have won with any candidate. And they will again unless “interrupted.”

  20. To repeat what MBunge said: “I have to echo the view that no actual thinking was involved.”

Narcissism is a helluva drug that deprives its addicts of any capacity that they may once have had for rational thought. The people who foisted Biden on the rest of us are fueled by a toxic mixture of fear of losing their present perks; anger toward anyone who disagrees with them; and contempt for those they consider beneath their notice. All of these are feelings– thinking ain’t got nothing to do with them.

  21. We forget that in January and February of 2020 Trump appeared unbeatable. Biden was selected as the guy least likely to get landslided. Then Covid got bigger and bigger, and Trump did not handle the PR of it well. He tried to be positive and upbeat, and Birx, Fauci, the bureaucracy and the press saw the chance to hammer him endlessly.

When he looked vulnerable the social media became braver at handicapping Trump. This grew throughout the year until they took the unthinkable step of actively suppressing a story that pointed directly at Joe Biden’s corruption. They did it in plain sight, knowing if Biden won no one would hold them accountable.

That the courts allowed vote harvesting meant cheating was now possible in wholesale numbers. Dominion voting systems made possible middle-of-the-night vote fraud–and no one could prove it, and even if someone did, the ballots were in the box. No judge would order them invalidated.

And again Trump suffered personnel failure. Rudy Giuliani is an over-the-hill drunk who knows nothing about election law. The Democrats have a cadre of experienced lawyers to train others. They’re ready. Republicans never are. Soros-backed secretaries of state have specialists, funded by Soros, who know how to bend the rules and bluff any inquiries. Republicans have amateur party hacks.

Even with all that they barely pulled it off. Virginia showed that thousands of committed, trained volunteers could overcome the cheating. Is your local party gearing up to stop the steal?

  22. To quote the senator from Hawaii Mazie K Hirono “Democrats just Know Things”

  23. ALL of the above.

We are all like the Buddha’s five blind men, asked to describe a strange animal from just parts of it, who’ve never even heard of an elephant.

At base, it matters not their rationale. For the Left is 1984 made real, today’s Carthage and “Carthago delenda est”…

  24. Mike K.,

“The mutilating surgery is going to come back and bite one of those “gender affirming” surgeons.”

Let’s hope it’s very, very soon, before more people, especially minors, are harmed. I cannot comprehend how such surgeries comply with the Hippocratic Oath.

  25. RTF: The Hippocratic Oath, with its ancient injunctions against abortion, intentional administration of poisons, and sexual involvement with male or female patients, was revised in the 1960s by Dr. Louis Lasagna, Academic Dean at Tufts University School of Medicine– “and this revised form is widely accepted in today’s medical schools.” Sample passage: “I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm. If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.”

The blogger who posted both the traditional and revised versions of the Oath summarized the major difference: “The classical Oath of Hippocratic [sic] involves the triad of the physician, the patient and God, while the revised version involves only the physician and the patient, reliving the Gods of a few responsibilities.”
Both texts in full here: https://doctors.practo.com/the-hippocratic-oath-the-original-and-revised-version/

  26. I wondered for a long time how people near Biden, especially Doctor Jill, could allow Joe to run for the presidency. Then I remembered that people around Hillary allowed her to run.

While it is true she is not as age-addled as Joe, she is surely as ethically and morally compromised as he is. Just what kind of party would allow these damaged goods to represent their partisans in a national election?

Oh — I guess the same people who would allow Bill Clinton to run.

  27. “…Black kids are as smart as white…”

That train has left the station.

In Democrat-world, being “smart” means being white (and white supremacist).
Working hard means being white (and white supremacist).
Meritocracy means being white (and white supremacist).
Achievement is white (and white supremacist).
The Law and its enforcement is white (and white supremacist).
    Etc., etc., etc.

And educating or promoting any of the above is racist and white-supremacist.

IOW, all the foundations of a decent, healthy society—of a decent and healthy individual—are racist and white supremacist.

And while the toxic ideology has been bandied about for some time now, it’s been officially institutionalized by “Biden”.

(IOW, Systemic (and systematic) Insanity has officially replaced so-called “Systemic Racism”(TM)…)

Indeed, ‘”Biden” did this’…and those who supported him and continue to do so should take a long, deep bow.

  28. Even lifelong liberals Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying have come around, in the latest Dark Horse Podcast, to the idea that the DNC does not love America and does not have America’s best interests at heart, if they can continue to prop up an incoherent, senile, old man as President.

Their “solution”, however, is to 25th Biden and put Harris in place, so that in the case of the hypothetical 3 a.m. phone call, at least someone who can string together a complete sentence would be able to answer. I fear that, while neither demented nor old, Harris would be hard-pressed to manage even that.

“Madam President, we have a report that the Chinese have launched a first strike against the Philippines and Japan.”
    “HAHAHAHAHAHAHA”

  29. Mike K., Rufus T. Firefly —

I think I said here the other day that I suspect juvenile gender “affirmation” medical treatment will be the 21st century’s lobotomy: all the rage, and how dare you question all the good it’s doing for those poor bipolar, severely depressed, and schizophrenic patients, and then suddenly it’s “omg, wtf were we thinking?” and in a few years nobody is doing them and if you try you lose your license.

I can’t vouch for the details of the story, but it’s often repeated that one of the pioneers of SRS at Johns Hopkins closed his clinic because when he followed up on his (mostly M2F) patients he found that their mental health hadn’t improved at all.

  30. Other than Leftism is only 1 stage thinking and the Marxist are out to destroy or at the least make the greatest country equal and no more powerful than any other is all I can add to this now

  31. Look, you want to really understand the PostModern Left, you need to first grasp that their primary quality — the thing that makes them members — is the near absolute lack of anything resembling Wisdom

If you had a “WQ” test to match the IQ test, then you would find that most self-defined liberals ranked in the lower third of the resulting bell curve.

    Seriously.

They are not “stupid”, they are fools. We often use those words interchangeably, but that’s technically incorrect. They are not the same type of mental failures. You can be quite brilliant in IQ, and still quite low in WQ (think of Marxism and Noam Chompsky). You can talk to some doddering old guy who’s never left the county he was born in, and was never thought of as “bright”, and yet it may be that he still has a deeper understanding of people and the world than many of them. He’s wiser, though not smarter.

Put another way, you can think of them as not particularly bright 3yos. They have no experience on which to build (despite all the experience life and time has offered, they learned nothing from it — which takes wisdom). And they haven’t yet figured out the problem of “peekaboo”: The universe does not go away when you cover your eyes — not knowing about something — refusing to believe in it — does not make it untrue. Hence “Green Technologies”, which are generally pretty filthy, in actuality, are “green” because all of the filth is left half the world away.

  32. I am reminded of the e-mail my Demo brother sent out after the election. Biden, he told us, would unite us.

I’ll give thanks for small favors; none of the Democrats in my family have yet to say anything so fatuous. I do have a swing voter cousin who complained about how ‘divisive’ Trump was and was vociferously steamed with one of her children for voting for him. (I don’t know if the other two lied to their mother to keep her off their backs, abstained from voting, or voted for Biden).

  33. Someone was looking for the pyschiatrist who started one of the first “affirming” programs in the country, at Johns Hopkins, which they closed down when they found these peoepl still kill themselves despite all these interventions.

Which causes me to conclude their body dysphoria needs mental health treatment, NOT surgery or hormone blockers.
“You are girl who has thoughts that she is a boy; that does NOT mean you meant to be a boy, dear one.”

(That applies to the majority of these teens, dealing with the overwhelming to them physical, sexual and social changes in this hypersexualized society. I do think there are a very humans who are born with this–and know of children from the day they could speak, told their mommas they were the opposite sex.)

This is a site parents of these children maintain. You may not want to disrupt your Easter morning by hitting it though. The essays are extremely candid.
Prepare to have your hearts broken by the pain and suffering endured by watching your child mutilate themself–with the support of the government and medical community.

  34. All of the above. Though I would order them 3, 5, 2, 1. Hubris and belief in their own abilities and intellectual capacity drove them. It should also be noted that getting rid of Trump was the overarching motivation and Biden was deemed the candidate best able to defeat him. None of the other Democrat candidates could be counted on to get enough votes to make stealing the election possible. With Biden they only needed to manufacture a small percentage of votes in several states to make him the victor.

  35. It wasn’t that complicated. It was Orange Man Bad all the way down. They preferred anything on two legs or four, not over 24 hours dead.

  36. Ditto most all of the above. Sadly.
The asylum patients are in control.
    JimNorCal 2:54 pm yesterday:
“But it’s just “kid in a candy store”, nothing to counter balance them and nothing planned.”
Those narcissist, credentialed elites are more thuggish than kid-ish.
But they also carry much disdain for most people — in their “class-ist” bigoted way. Nothing they do or are calling for has consequences that will hurt THEM, so contemplating or even admitting risks is a waste of their time.
    Evil and selfish.
Too many of them are tasting huge power, & able to ignore all the “checks & balances” of civility that our forefathers put in place — eg, lawsuits, decent judges, actual justice.
And now they are high/drunk & blinded by their power. Safe in their castles, guarded by our taxes.
(Aside: Ms Jill & family must all be on drugs, rotting their hearts.
No loving wife would let this go on.)

  37. So, what have the Democrats wrought?

Every day Biden sinks deeper into senility, every day he invents a magic and mighty past that never happened for himself, every day he gets more and more angry and snappish, he creepily whispers into microphones, and is now trying to shake hands with invisible people.

His potential replacement, VP Harris, is a cackling numbskull, and the next in line is older than dirt Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has her own problems with senility, next in line of succession is the President pro tempore of the Senate, Patrick Leahy, next Secretary of State Blinken, and after him Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen.

    What a bench.

P.S. I’m convinced that one of the main reasons Putin decided to invade the Ukraine at this particular moment was because he saw how weak President Biden was and is, and he expected no great pushback or retaliation from the U.S. if he took advantage of our weakness and invaded.

I fear that since this Presidential weakness remains and may grow even worse, Putin may decide that, given this U.S. leadership vacuum, he can get away with expanding his invasion to encompass other former parts of the old U.S.S.R. like Poland, Hungary, or the Baltic States.

    Dangerous times indeed.

  38. OBloody:

Number three swallowed and incorporated number four.

    The numbers are fixed now.

  39. @ OBH > “What *I* -really- wanna know is: What did you do with #4?”

    Shadow banning by Twitter?

Neo seems to have covered most of the possibilities, so maybe we should just call it “all of the above.”

    However, it might have been:
#4 Biden is faking being demented so no one will realize he is actually a Lizard Person, and Snow on Pine is getting close to outing their UFO headquarters, so they zapped it off Neo’s post.

  40. It wouldn’t be that hard to ditch him at an appropriate time. I still think the plan was Joe would serve 2 years and a day, then Harris would be eligible to serve the rest of his term and be able to run for two more terms of her own.

Even if they couldn’t pull off a 22nd amendment removal, Limbaugh mapped out another approach: tell the media to treat him like a Republican, and go after Hunter and his brother’s shady business deals. You can resign, or we can bury Hunter, your choice.

  41. How I’ve come to explain it:
Joe Biden is POTUS because he is, because of Hunter’s laptop, by far the most vulnerable person to outside control to ever hold that office.
He was obviously cognitively impaired in March 2020, when he was ordained by Jim Clyburn ( on behalf of et al)
The material on the laptop coupled with his mental deficits and the entire family’s likely criminal culpability (pedophilia as well as corruption, tax evasion) allows the Deep State to have enormous control.
DS has been in possession of Hunter’s laptop since December 2019.
They knew what was in it, and moved to use it for their benefit.

And who doesn’t think Willie Brown didn’t make sex tapes, which undoubtedly the Deep Staters have as well.
Those coupled with the obvious box checking that has gotten her FAR above her capabilities, lets KH be extremely controllable as well. Her obvious unfitness for the job lets Biden stay right where he is, til they decide it’s time for him to go.
The devil we know thing there. Though it’s getting harder for voters to watch the decline, and its obvious foreign policy ramifications.

Deep State’s Dream Team, those two.

    Makes sense to me.

  42. Democrats tend to underestimate the importance of leadership skills, and think everything depends on intelligence.

I suspect that part of it is that they felt they were the smart ones and would figure it out, and Biden’s limitations were not that important.
