There’s some fight in the old GOP yet — 15 Comments

  1. Meanwhile, Ted Cruz, having had the courage to enter the lion’s den to answer for his foolish comments to Tucker (who queried him about Ray Epps), relentlessly grilled, on Capitol Hill today, the FBI’s worthless Jill Sanborn, who, by failing to answer any of his questions, proved that the actions of the corrupt bureau on J6, at best, were corrupt and, at worst (a far likelier explanation), were instrumental in fomenting a “faux-insurrection” (i.e. a “Fedsurrection”) in order to discredit and to delegitimize not only Trump but every American who rationally questions the election of 2020 and who reasonably refuses to accept an administration fraudulently installed through a shamelessly-rigged (and probably stolen) process which was neither free nor fair.

  2. Talks cheap, action counts. A mentioned above I will believe it when I see it.
j e, Cruz did go after the FBI. Not sure that it did any good though. Unfortunately. Did the FBI have agents and others there causing “problems”.
    Yes, next question.

  3. Cruz’s cross examination equates to, the witness’s refusal to answer reveals her organization’s guilt but at this point, what does it matter?

That neo has no confidence in McCarthy’s willingness to follow through with his threat, reveals that in her heart of hearts she knows she cannot rely upon the GOP to fight with their utmost for liberty. They ‘fight’ as the wind blows. Though members in good standing with the GOP can be relied upon to resist… when the GOP’s political turf is threatened.

  4. I’d like to see it. Since McCarthy has openly promised this, perhaps he will have to deliver.

  5. Yep, talk is cheap. Let’s see if he follows through in a year, if they take the House (which is likely, but not certain).

Swalwell and Schiff are both particularly loathsome, so I think McCarthy might follow through on his threat. Also, they’re white males, so the blowback will be less intense. But Omar? No way. As an intersectional princess, she is pretty much untouchable.

  6. @Kate:Since McCarthy has openly promised this, perhaps he will have to deliver.

He’s not “accountable” to anyone but the voters in his district, California’s 22. If they don’t gerrymander or ballot-harvest him away.

But he came under Boehner and Ryan, and he was one of those who blamed Trump for Jan 6. I’m thinking he’s one of the lizard people and the other lizards will make sure he is never held accountable.

  7. Do actions speak louder than words? You might find this amusing: The year in Congressional Stock Trading.

    https://unusualwhales.com/i_am_the_senate/full

I have just released the full trading report on politicians in 2021.

In short, many beat the market.

They traded more than ever before.

And they made numerous unusually timed trades, resulting in huge gains.

Nothing quite like having a front-row seat to forward policy-making and budgetary decisions……..

  8. Rep voters love tough talk – and mostly like tough, fair actions.

Sad thing is that leaders of the GOP are, inevitably, going to be elites or on the path towards elitism. Their personal career ambition is almost always to be part of the elite.

So it’s not too likely that they’ll be strongly anti-elite in actions, even if tough words are what gets them elected.

  9. That album cover says music by George Kleinsinger but E.B. White provided the notes. So I guess Kleinsinger just did the keys and chords?

  10. But he came under Boehner and Ryan, and he was one of those who blamed Trump for Jan 6. I’m thinking he’s one of the lizard people and the other lizards will make sure he is never held accountable.

In some respects worse. Boehner’s an obnoxious old lush, but he also spent 14 years of his life running a small business (still in existence last I checked), a most unusual credential among the congressional leadership stratum. Ryan was in essence a man who wrote position papers for a living for one of the ancestors of FreedomWorks ‘ere running for Congress at age 28. However he has other skills (he could work as a fitness instructor), has contemplated first principles, and is a satisfactory wonk; trouble is he has no leadership qualities. McCarthy has worked for legislative bodies his whole bloody adult life, and our single best guess is that he’s so vacuous he’s Frank Luntz’ bitch.

  11. From J. J. Sefton at Ace of Spades today:

To all of this brave, uplifting, fightin’ mad Mr. Smith Goes to Washington rhetorical fireworks, I say thank you — and f–k you. When the chips were down last year, you sat on your hands, abrogated your oath to the Constitution and sold America down the river for good by not protesting a stolen election. That was on top of doing everything you could to stonewall and sabotage President Trump’s legislative agenda when in his first two years the GOP held both chambers of Congress and had an absolute mandate to reverse not just the Obama destruction, but most of everything going back to the New Deal. The possible exception to that, of course, being the “entitlements.” Even before that, for years and years it was “Build the dang fence!” before an election and then deriding us as “hobbits” for complaining about embracing amnesty afterwards. “We’re only one half of one third of three fifths of 99 44/100ths% Congress!” Dozens of single-sentence Obamacare repeals knowing full well the dog-eating bastard would veto it but stonewalling and ultimately a thumbs down when Trump pushed for it.
