It’s the day of… — 15 Comments

  1. We brought home one little baggie of turkey. Enough for one sandwich. The price of going to a large family gathering is mucho competition for leftovers.

  2. I put the turkey carcass in the slow cooker last night, with chicken stock, and this morning I had wonderful soup stock. Had the soup finished and in the fridge by noon. Now reheating a platter of leftover turkey and leftover stuffing and gravy, and we’re done!

  3. Talked my son-in-law into frying two turkeys and we’d split the second one so we have plenty of leftovers. We got the carcass and will make rice congee which we’ll share with them.

  4. Leftovers Turkey Sandwich:

    Two slices of bread
    Slices of turkey
    Smear of stuffing
Cranberry sauce (the kind that comes in a can)

Probably not Foodie recommended but I’ve been eating this combo since my youth, which was a long time ago.

We managed to grab the whole turkey carcass even though our daughter hosted this year. Will be making soup tomorrow.

  5. My wife made a 15 pound turkey with all the fixings and we bought a pie.
Drove two hours to her dad’s to take him dinner since he can’t drive that distance now.
We left him some turkey, butternut squash, vegetables, ambrosia, etc., but he sent us home with a lot of venison.
    Win!

  6. As a kid, Thanksgiving was okay, but what I really looked forward to was my mom’s turkey chow mein a few days later.

  7. I’m making do with the left-overs from my grand-daughter’s first batch of home-made fudge.

  8. Just turkey turkey, with all the trimmings. Not made into anything else; just a lovely repeat of yesterday (we have leftovers of everything). But…without the time and stress. I often look forward more to the day after Thanksgiving. Low key (I have never done Black Friday, and never will), low stress, same great food, just reheated.

    What’s not to like?

  9. My Dad used to make a turkey soup that was absolutely vile. Luckily he took the recipe to his grave.

  10. Bought a couple of turkeys on sale, one 20lb, one 12lb, and cut them into portions suitable for the 2 of us. Vac-sealed-froze with seasoning. Did one dark and one light portion sous-vide, 152 – 6 hrs for dark, 3 for light. Juices in bags for gravy. Had dressing made with stock from the carcasses made in pressure cooker when I cut up the birds for freezing. Green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie. We got stuffed and left overs for the coming week.

  11. Hello. I’ve been spending most of the day sleeping, which is a little strange for me. I had actually used up my leftovers for the most part last night, because we had started dinner on Thanksgiving day relatively early, so I could claim to be a little hungry again around midnight.

  12. This year, for the very first time, we had Turducken instead of turkey.
I thought it tasted better than traditional Turkey.
    Also cooks faster, easier.

    Plenty of leftovers !!!

  13. @JohnTyler:

“This year, for the very first time, we had Turducken instead of turkey.”

You, Sir, are a true hero. I’ve always wanted to try one of these ever since first learning of them.
