Gunfight at the Chicago corral — 38 Comments

  1. So if there’s a gunfight down the street, with bullets flying all over, potentially into people’s cars or windows or doorways, it’s all good if all the shooters were participating willingly. The fact that everyone around them was in danger is besides the point I guess.

  2. @ Topo > “The fact that everyone around them was in danger is besides the point I guess.”

I’m starting to think that IS the point.

  3. The ultimate problem is that the people responsible for these policies are not subject to their consequences. Betcha that if Foxx and Soros had to live in the middle of these dangerous neighborhoods without body guards the problems would be solved in no time and the policies reversed.

This is so true of our governing class, no consequences for what they do however stupid, destructive, and generally awful.

  4. Paul in Boston,

    Bingo.

Yet count on it, just as in the French Revolution Hebert, Danton, Robespierre and Saint-Just eventually faced the most fatal of consequences, so too will today’s revolutionaries…

    Richard Aubrey,

And that is where responsibility ultimately lies.

  5. And just like that, what used to be classified as a totally racist law enforcement notion, viz., “let the blacks take care of their own problems,” has morphed into the latest in anti-racist law enforcement. One’s head spins.

  6. Steve in Pa has it. White people are not allowed now to involve themselves in black problems, so let them kill each other is the new rule. As Topo Gigio points out, this means the black neighborhood will be sprayed with bullets regularly. Women and children are collateral damage, but if the shooters were having a gun battle, no foul. Hard to believe this is what people really want.

  7. It used to be that cities would feature Emergency Call Boxes, telephones in bright yellow boxes with direct lines to the police substations. But now I read, Chicago has moved on to a new concept for citizen services – Bleeding Kits, set in stations around the city, to render emergency aid to gunshot crime victims.

And now Ms Fox is declining to prosecute the competing murderer-gangs. Lack of evidence? The bodies disappeared, did they?

What Progressives seem to forget is that the Police function that they so eagerly wish to disband serves quite a few Public Service functions – one of which is to put violent criminal suspects in jail, not only to protect the citizenry, but to protect the accused – from lynching, before their court appearances. In the Old West, city marshals oversaw the jails with this latter consideration as their primary concern.

We’ve already seen the decay in civilizational mores in places like Venezuela. Neighborhoods are taking matters into their own hands with opportunistic street criminals. But that is in an environment of governmental decay, disinterest, neglect as a strategy to demoralize. What DA’s like Foxx are trying to accomplish is much more evil: To achieve the desired result much more quickly, by intentional acceleration of the collapse progression.

  8. As usual, illustrates Sailer’s Law of Mass Shootings (even if many of these were individual shootings). Them durn %^&&$#@ just can’t shoot straight.

Anyways, just fence them off and let them be themselves in a free range environment. Or give them old style heavy-handed tutelary guidance. There’s no viable in-between.

  9. @Kate… Women and Children bit is a bonus. Can clamor for more ‘Gibs’ because heartstrings being pulled by sad stories of brave single mothers and kids with shining futures (it is to laugh) ahead of them being cut down in their prime. Tales of Ventilated gang bangers have less fund-raising impact.

And… as everyone who went to an Ivy in recent years knows… Impact is Everything. Gotta want to make an Impact.

  10. The mayor should dress up in the “Rona Destroyer” costume she sported last year when laying down the law about the Chicago Way to celebrate Halloween: “While stating that trick-or-treating will be happening in Chicago, Lightfoot also made clear that all those participating must maintain social distancing, remain in groups of six people or less [should be “fewer”– ed.], and everyone handing out candy must wear a mask.”

Photo at the link of Her Honor in a red cape, black mask, and image of Clorox Wipes on her costume:

Maybe she can change her moniker to “Kim Destroyer” this year.

  11. Lack of evidence? The bodies disappeared, did they?

A Fox News spot claimed that all the firearms used magically disappeared. I’m not sure if that detail was provided by the police or Kim Foxx.

  12. @ TommyJay > “all the firearms used magically disappeared”

A friend of mine, a ‘Nam veteran and then gun manufacturer, with a side-line working for the government on projects he wasn’t allowed to talk about, also had a side-line as an expert witness in shooting cases.

One instance involved a prominent local politician whose wife had been murdered. IIRC, the prosecutions story was an “interrupted burglary” where the politician, coming into the room too late, bravely shot at the escaping perp, who had dropped his gun after shooting the wife, and sadly missed, although he was later arrested and brought to trial (obviously).

The husband’s gun and the “perp’s” were introduced into evidence, but the location and type of bullet holes indicated that there had been another weapon on the scene, which my friend so testified.

The “perp” was convicted despite his claims that he hadn’t shot her. (I don’t remember any details of his story.) Apparently, he hadn’t seen any other party at the scene to point a finger to, and the forensics “proved” his gun had fired the fatal shot, so down he went.

Some time later, my friend encountered the prosecutor in a restaurant, and jokingly asked, “So, (name), what DID your guys do with that third gun?”
He said the lawyer turned white as a sheet and walked away.

  13. Couple of thoughts.

So, Mayor Lightfoot fears that the city could sink into chaos. Really? What would be different, Mayor?

When I was a kid, oh about75 years ago, we used to love to go to the movies and watch the westerns. Lots of shooting; but, only bad guys died; and they had the grace to do so without a lot of blood or drama. Chicago, and other cities across the land, get the lots of shooting right. The question of who dies is still problematic.

  14. One has to wonder what benefit Kim Foxx gets, from not doing her job. And why does it not bother her to release those people?

  15. I wonder how much the violence is spreading out from the South and West sides of Chicago proper and starting to get into the suburbs somewhat.

  16. “…a leftist…”

    Actually, she’s a freakin’ maniac.

(But put on those masks! Get those vaccinations!!)

  17. Yes…Kim Fox was buddy buddy with liar Jussie Smollett. I say, just fence Chicago in, and let them kill each other. After all…this is Bidens America, and he doesn’t give two sh*ts about Americans….he left hundreds if not thousands behind for the Taliban to torture.

  18. I wonder how much the violence is spreading out from the South and West sides of Chicago proper and starting to get into the suburbs somewhat.

I recently visited my sister who still lives in Chicago, in a southwest area called Beverly that used to be an elegant neighborhood. She says armed robberies are now occurring within blocks of her home. For the first time, I did not go downtown, especially to the Art Institute. I understand they now have valet parking since no one wants to park in that area. North Michigan Avenue is now a ghost town (No I did not look).

  19. Which gang is Ms. Foxx affiliated with? I mean other than the Democrat Party. Otherwise, why is it so important to her that gang activity continue unabated?

  20. Mike K,

North Michigan Avenue, and the Loop, are a ghost town. I have been a few times this year, as recently as a month ago, and it is very, very strange. For what its worth, I would feel safe going to the Art Institute. I took a train to the Field Museum during the day and felt safe. But it was eerie how few people were around. All the vendor’s carts were unoccupied and covered with tarps. Almost no one at the Lake front on a gorgeous, late summer’s day.

Oddly, the restaurants were busy. I guess the folks who live in the area are still going out to eat.

By the way, I don’t think I’d live in Beverly these days. I hope your sister remains safe.

  21. I have written this before; there is tremendous racism in the black community. Of course, many, many blacks are not racist, but, due to our country’s history, blacks have generally been left out of the cultural pogroms to eliminate racism. In U.S. history blacks, Jews, Chinese and Irish were especially targeted for their race, ethnicity or religion and it was openly done in many places. Each form of irrational hatred had to be dealt with in its own way, but over time our culture shifted and now most Americans would be appalled at any attempts to treat any of those groups as second class citizens.

However, many blacks openly mock whites, Jews and Asians. They freely talk in stereotypes about them.

But now we have a situation where most, major black cities and/or sections of cities are run, and have been run, mostly by black politicians and chiefs of police for years, if not decades. And black citizens are learning this is not fixing the problems in their communities. Not only that, continuing to blame the problems on “racism” or “whites” is not only ineffectual, it has no basis in fact. If the Mayor, the AG, the DA, the Public Defenders, the Police Chief and 2/3 of the police force are all black, how is racism the cause of the disparities one sees in these communities?

And, of course, many black people are speaking out about the realities of what is going on; Larry Elder, Candace Owens, Shaquille O’Neal… It may be pollyanna’ish of me, but I’m guardedly optimistic we may be living through the last, major vestige of racism in our nation, and, like the awfulness of reconstruction and the race riots of the ’60s, this is the process we have to go through to root it out.

  22. If my above comment seems like a ridiculous pipe dream, imagine living in Chicago in the ’30s and believing the mob would ever be held to heel, or living in Alabama in the ’60s and believing Birmingham would be what it is today, with comfortable, nonchalant and joyous interactions of races?

  24. Rufus, a recent column in PowerLine showed the results of a poll asking Minneapolis voters the question, “Do you think Minneapolis should or should not reduce the size of its police force?”

White: 33% should, 51% should not
Black: 14% should, 75% should not

In other words black people were *more* opposed than whites to defunding the police, by a wide margin. And this in the city where George Floyd was “murdered” and became ground zero for the anti-police riots and looting of 2020.

If blacks can now start connecting this all to the Democrat party we may start getting somewhere. There is some indication of this happening but not enough, yet.

  25. Lori Lightfoot is a leftist, total POS b^^tch.

She is a life long resident of Chicago and as such was fully aware of the problems facing that city and, in particular, the routine and “normal” shootings / killings in the black inner city parts of Chicago.
This includes the shooting deaths of young black children caught in the crossfire of gang shootings.
One would think, given her background and her life long residence in Chicago, that BEFORE she ran for mayor, she would have some sort of plan / program / strategy to address / ameliorate the crime within the black inner city of Chicago.
    Guess what folks??
    She did not.
So why did she run for Mayor?
Well , like many folks who enters politics she obviously wanted to become mayor for the recognition and financial security (life long pension + benefits) that accompanies a mayor’s position.
And when her mayoral tenure is over, rest assured you will see her on all the TV channels commenting as an expert commentator, despite the only expertise she has is her own self promotion.

But the bottom line is that the voter’s are really the one to blame – yet once again – for electing her. In their stupidity they voted for someone because …….?
Well, for black voters, it was because of her skin color; that pretty much sums it up.
For white liberal progressives, it was because she is a lefty and black; the perfect combination of attributes for any politician (as long as the white liberal progressives do not have to live anywhere near black people).

  26. FOAF @ 4:01pm,

Many blacks are figuring out that white, suburban girls treating them and their concerns like a puppy they are rescuing from from an animal shelter is not, ultimately in blacks’ best interests.

  27. John Tyler,

You forgot lesbian. She checked three boxes. Unbeatable in any election!

  28. Skin color?
Whatever shade it might be, she is alas more than a bit on the thin-skinned side of the spectrum.

That is, she loves to dish it out but has more than a bit of trouble with incoming criticisms and/or suggestions. (To be sure, a “suggestion”, for the thin-skinned, is almost ALWAYS heard as criticism.)

The following describes a colorful diatribe not recommended for the faint of heart—or for those expecting understanding, empathy, responsibility and/or the golden mean in politics—and it’s by no means the only classic out there as she is wonderfully “prolific”! (OTOH, I keep forgetting that it IS, after all, Chicago…):
