The left, mail-in voting, and the new PostOfficeGate meme — 29 Comments

  1. The Big Lie isn’t just more effective, it’s also more fun, in a malicious, getting-away-with-a-dirty-trick sort of way.

  2. Now I know why all of a sudden my lefty friends are yelling about Trump and the postal service. I had no idea what they were talking about. And got to a point a while back where I don’t even bother trying to find out what the Trump Outrage of the Day is about. By Monday it’ll be something else. Which, unfortunately, does not mean no damage will be done.

  3. Got a college friend who was stationed at Mather AFB in CA 65-66. Been in Michigan since then, couple of corporate postings in between. Just posted he got a CA ballot. I asked it had been forwarded or does CA think a registered voter has his permanent home in MI. Hope to hear.

Meislin. If one is ever on a grand jury, or a petit jury, act accordingly. Had a couple of relations screwed by prosecutors. One, withheld exculpatory evidence case, was eventually overthrown. Another was the process is the punishment thing where no crime, according to the prosecutor’s expert, was committed.

I’ve long had a suspicion that that particular sub-occupation attracts and retains more than its share of narcissists of the I-Can-Never-Be-Wrong variety. Neither judges nor prosecutors are held accountable for their crimes, a practice Glenn Reynolds maintains was invented by the court system and lacks constitutional warrant. I like cops. I’m very suspicious of prosecutors.

Daniel’s 67 this year, no? Has he retired?

  8. The Post Office fantasy is all part of the upcoming smear should Trump win re-election. It will be a way for them to showcase his “illegitimacy” as president. They tried and failed spectacularly with Russiagate; this is another method. It’s insurance in case he wins. Then half the electorate will be convinced he “stole” the election with the help of the hapless USPS.

The very idea is absurd. This is the same USPS that loses my mail, but somehow they can be commandeered to swing an election. Only from the fever dreams of the Left does anything this ridiculous gain traction.

It also sets up the point that the victims are so stupid they deserve what they are getting and so an excuse to not feel guilty…

  10. “…so stupid…”

One has to be careful here.
Obamagate was—IS (it’s still “alive and well”, if somewhat wounded, i.e., compromised)—a hugely convoluted, incredibly sophisticated deception, with multiple cutouts and degrees of separation (for cover-up purposes), ranging over several continents and multiple US and foreign intelligence and Justice/LE agencies, with the MSCM—worldwide—and Democratic Party operatives providing covering flak, with the agencies themselves creating false leads and cul-de-sacs even as they doctored and hid, if not destroyed, official documentation.

Having said all that, they never believed that anyone would crack their exquisite deception (Obama after all is an unrivaled GENIUS—just ask him); never imagined anyone would get near enough to their complex series of channels and overlays of intrigue so as to actually reveal their MO, never thought they’d get caught. And so they got a bit sloppy (in retrospect) and made a few mistakes…. (Could happen to any of us….couldn’t it?)

Anyway, here’s a summary by a “good guy” that many of you will already have heard of. It’s not new but indicative of the techniques of these masters of subterfuge:

And here’s a (the?) magnum opus, masterful and detailed—also not new—by one of the truly “good guys”:

  11. So, let me get this straight… the Dems want to use the COVID-19 crisis to force voting by mail, so that when they lose they can claim that the post office lost all of their votes.

Is this some sort of really bad movie?

  12. Neo,
Here is what Trump said on Fox Business about why there is no agreement on the stimulus bill with the Democrats:
“They want $3.5 billion for something that will turn out to be fraudulent, that’s election money basically. They want 3.5 trillion — billion dollars for the mail-in votes, OK, universal mail-in ballots, 3.5 trillion. They want $25 billion, billion, for the Post Office. Now they need that money in order to have the post office work so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots. Now, in the meantime, they aren’t getting there. By the way, those are just two items. But if they don’t get those two items, that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting because they’re not equipped to have it.“

Then he goes on to mention something about ballot requests being lost in Virginia.

Also Trump has tweeted often about how he is skeptical of mail-in voting [which he himself has done. Oddly, he encouraged mail-in voting in Florida so if anything he isn’t consistent.]

So it is NOT a lie or a conspiracy at all to say Trump and many Republicans do not like mail in voting. That is totally true. And the fact that he does not want to sign on to Pelosi’s bill tells everyone he doesn’t want the USPS to have extra funding for the election.

In fact Republicans have their own conspiracy that Democrats are organizing fraudulent ballots and getting non citizens to vote. [Some still think Hillary only got more votes because millions of illegals voted – total conspiracy].

The conspiracy part the Democrats speak of comes in when there is talk of Trump sabotaging the USPS. From what I have read he isn’t doing that. And in fact the warning that the USPS sent to all the states was because they wanted to preserve the election not undermine it. Many voters can still vote by mail and will. They just need to do it in a timely manner. Apparently Trump doesn’t really like mail-in voting. He has said so.

  13. Montage:

Absentee ballots are not mail in ballots. But you know that, and you know about military absentee ballots being f’ed with in past presidential elections. How would mail in balloting be better than absentee ballots? And of course the theft of ordinary mail never happens in the perfect Montage world, why would anyone tamper with mailed ballots?

WA has has a mail in voting system state wide for 15 years or so. It has been no improvement.

How did you like the ballot harvesting in CA when the Republicans did it to Congresscritter throuple? In the Senate you crew wanted ballot harvesting nationwide. Whatever it takes is how you all roll.

  14. Montage:

I should have been clearer: absentee ballots that at mailed in are another form of voting for those who cannot or chose not to vote in person at a polling place. You have to apply for the ballot and it is sent to you specifically at your request when approved.

Mail in voting as in WA state have replaced all in person voting at precincts. No choice, trust the Post Office or a drop box set up by the County Auditor. In our last primary two weeks ago the county drop box was locked early so my spouse’s vote was not valid (too late for the day’s postmark) BTW.

  15. Om
Right, absentee voting without an excuse is what I mean specifically. Ballots being only sent to registered voters. I think both parties should strive to make voting easier for all registered voters – not more difficult. In most states this type of voting is allowed. The issue is that Trump and many Republicans make it seem like this type of voting is new and problematic. I know there are anecdotes supporting some problems but even in person voting has problems as we saw in 2000.

  16. Voting is controlled by the individual States. The Federal government has no control over poll places or vote-by-mail, so this is all a smokescreen for something.

Or maybe these idiots all skipped 8th grade civics class.

  17. Montage:

What Trump and other Republicans (and that includes me) are objecting to is NOT mail-in voting by request – which is what Trump does in Florida. That type of voting is similar to absentee voting. The main point of both mail-in votes and absentee votes is that the voter must request the ballot.

What Trump and the rest of us are objecting to – and my guess is that you know this but are pretending not to know it – is what’s called universal mail-in voting. See this:

Here is a tweet of Trump’s on the matter:

And here is a quote from the article I linked:

But only nine states and the District of Columbia so far plan to hold universal mail-in elections – in which ballots are automatically mailed to all registered voters without needing to first request one.

There is also a hybrid form that goes like this: several other states are “mailing voters applications for absentee ballots.” So it sounds like the voter – or someone pretending to be the voter – at least has to mail back a request in those states. In the other nine, however – which includes the swing state of Nevada – all registered voters will be getting ballots whether they want them or not, or whether they’re alive or dead.

Except for Nevada, the other states using UNIVERSAL mail-in voting are blue states. So fraud resulting from the practice in those states probably wouldn’t turn them blue, since they are already blue (unless voters wake up and notice how their leftists governments have hurt their states during COVID and/or the riots). However, it could easily fraudulently increase the total number of votes for Biden in the popular vote, which sets the whole thing up – even if Trump happens to win – for a possible repeat of 2016 where the Democrats shriek about how trump lost the popular vote and we must eliminate the Electoral College.

  18. The only time I ever recall for sure that I voted absentee was when I was living abroad back in 1992, so I can’t say much on this.

Neo, can I suggest that you might consider a way to differentiate the color of hyperlinks in your text more than they are now? Or has that been tried in the past and people found it too jarring? I have a hard time distinguishing the very dark maroon hypertext and the black text. Fortunately, when you say things like “this”, I usually get the hint.

  19. Remember: vote early, vote often.

This is good advice for everyone, but it goes especially for Democrats, in particular those whose votes appear miraculously—remember, it’s a secular religion—just as the vote seems to be in the bag for the GOP candidate; and super especially for the deceased, for those who have multiple IDs, for those who don’t yet have citizenship and for those who somehow don’t seem to live at “their” address.

(Oh, if you’re a Republican, don’t worry: your ballot will probably get lost or damaged. These things happen. No use complaining. It’s the price one pays for the privilege of living in a democracy…AND for being white—and, it goes without saying, white supremacist. Note that the last point is also true for Blacks or Hispanics who vote for Trump or who otherwise “get in the way” of “social justice”—just ask Carmen Best. Or Tim Scott. Or George Zimmerman. Etc.)

  20. In fact Republicans have their own conspiracy that Democrats are organizing fraudulent ballots and getting non citizens to vote. [Some still think Hillary only got more votes because millions of illegals voted – total conspiracy].

California can downgrade your vote just by using a census of Hispanics and using that to boost their representation ratio and electoral votes… you know, sorta like how they did with slaves in 3/5ths.
