SCOTUS rules in favor of Little Sisters of the Poor — 13 Comments

  1. “The court ruled 7-2 in favor of the Trump administration and the Catholic charity that cares for the elderly in two related disputes against Pennsylvania”

it was in favor of law… not sides…
I HATE that this is how they report it…

how can anyone not believe that the court is biased when its about taking sides and its not about deciding what is legally right or wrong?

  2. Ace warns conservatives & Christians: Don’t get cocky.

Yes, this is a win, but here’s my problem: This was a win that required 1, a very sympathetic plaintiff, with 2, very good and free (I’d imagine) legal representation, and 3, the intervention of a sympathetic presidential administration.

What hope do the rest of us have?

  3. Sotomayor and Ginsburg trotted out the usual Democratic blather: it will hurt the poor the most, and they will have to pay for the contraceptive themselves.

Alito’s ruling was stronger than Thomas’s. Thomas, writing for the Court, leaves the door wide open to further litigation, which the Left will undoubtedly undertake.
The Left is like Dracula: hard to kill.

    From Fox:
“We now send these cases back to the lower courts, where the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New Jersey are all but certain to pursue their argument that the current rule is flawed on yet another ground, namely, that it is arbitrary and capricious and thus violates the APA,” he [Alito] wrote. “This will prolong the legal battle in which the Little Sisters have now been engaged for seven years—even though during all this time no employee of the Little Sisters has come forward with an objection to the Little Sisters’ conduct.”

He [Alito] added that the court should have decided whether the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) in fact requires an exemption like the one granted by the Trump administration, because if so, “the Departments did not act in an arbitrary and capricious manner in granting it.”

Alito said: “And in my judgment, RFRA compels an exemption for the Little Sisters and any other employer with a similar objection to what has been called the accommodation to the contraceptive mandate.”

  4. Related: Ignored at the time -and now buried in history- is that the Trayvon Martin story -a local blown into national prominence- broke (weeks after the actual event) the day that Catholic groups all over the country were protesting the secularizing excesses of O-care. A subservient press buried that story in order to protect Obama’s signature policy.

  5. “A subservient press …”

Hey, I don’t consider myself strongly religious but even I can see that the Dem Party appears to be controlled by demonic forces.

Nonetheless, I’d say that the enemedia, aka MSM, is the number 1 problem.
Higher than the evil embodied in the Dems.
    Higher than biased courts.
Higher than the left-wing-factory of our school system.

If I could change one thing, it would be the media. If the media was approaching anything close to to reporting fairly a lot of problems would self-heal.

    My 2c

  6. enemedia….
let me guess, if your a “even cowgirls get the blues” fan (the book by tom robbins, not the movie), it requires a red “rubber rose”… right?

  7. It was 7-2 with Ginsburg and Sotomayor dissenting in the Masterpiece Cake Shop (“gay wedding cake”) case, too.

  8. Can anyone tell me how much birth control pills cost?
Are they so expensive that they need to be covered by insurance?

I will speculate that if an individual had to pay for this without any insurance at all, it would cost “X” dollars, but if they have insurance that covers this, the insurance company tags on to the insurance premium cost “1.2X” (or more) to provide this “free” coverage.

As an aside, even though most (all?) Western European nations and Canada have a form of a mandatory national health care, many citizens there ALSO purchase private health insurance.

There is something seriously wrong with our judicial system in which a single Federal judge somewhere in the USA can make a ruling that affects the entire USA.

Rest assured that if the ” LIttle Imams of the Poor,” followed the same policies as the “Little Sisters of the Poor,” no State or group would file any lawsuit against them.

Think about it; how many muslim owned bakeries have been subjected to lawsuits because they refuse to make a cake with a gay wedding theme?
I await a lawsuit against a jewish or kosher bakery because they refuse to make a cake adorned with swastikas.

Imagine if a KKK couple wanted a black owned bakery to make a wedding cake adorned with KKK symbols, and the bakery owners refused and they get sued. Who thinks a judge would rule in favor of the KKK couple? The lawsuit would be immediately tossed out of court.
Unless, of course, the bakery owners where white Christians. Then it would most certainly go to court and the bakery owners would most likely lose the lawsuit.

  9. Can anyone tell me how much birth control pills cost?
Are they so expensive that they need to be covered by insurance?

Republicans have been trying to pass legislation that makes them over the counter and therefore cheaper. The Dims block that to support the revenue stream of Planned Parenthood.

Roberts is a politician. He could have ended the case with a 5 to 4 decision.

  10. Can anyone tell me how much birth control pills cost?
Are they so expensive that they need to be covered by insurance?

Its not that… its that women can be bribed en masse.
they go where the free stuff and money is..
Havent you noticed? think about it!!!!!
Oh, and of course they would protesteth on it as that is not a kind image
But heck, from Madison ave to divorce court, to democrat assistance and welfare, and education, they can be bought…

Throw Billy Joel’s hit song on the list too?
She will take what you give her as long as its free, she steals like a thief but she is always a woman to me

PS – Power Line, according to the President of Marquette University, “is not a reputable news source and its main intention seems to be clickbait and advertising…”

Snopes would no doubt agree, and I’m sure the SPLC has PLB on a hate list somewhere. Scott Johnson is thinking about launching a defamation suit.
