Heartbreaking: victims of the crash over Iran — 15 Comments

  1. I read somewhere the other day that the Iranians constitute the second highest number of foreign students in Canadian universities and colleges. There were also a lot of upper school students who were returning to their schools in Canada. Unfortunate confluence of events with holiday season exacerbating the number of students on that flight.

  2. “…could have been this…”

But we must pretend it isn’t…

…unless, and only unless, Trump can be implicated in this tragedy and his heavy-handed guilt broadcast ’round the world.

  3. By a WSJ commenter today:
“The [large] debris field of scattered [small fragments of] wreckage of the fallen aircraft have led to the theory that Airliner exploded at 8,000 ft which is not consistent with one engine out since the 3 year old Boeing 737 can fly with one engine. Most telling is that Boeing stock this morning was up nearly 1%. That would lead many astute insiders to believe or suspect that this 737 was the victim of a hostile act and not mechanical failure. Finally, why doesn’t Iran allow Boeing or NTSB investigators on site to investigate which is normal protocol with these type of international flights ? Finally, the Ukrainian aviation authorities have banned future flights into Iranian Airspace. I think we all know the answer for that action.”

Iran shot down a plane full of expat Iranians, in other words. Accident or intent?

  4. I’m sure it’s already happened but I have no interest in diving into but I’m sure Trump has already been blamed for this.

If he hadn’t bombed those terrorist sites then the wonderful Iranian proxies wouldn’t have had to protest the US embassy which led the crazy, unstable Trump to assassinate the beloved Soulamani forcing the noble Iranians to strike back at those bases and leading the dedicated on edge Iranians to accidentally shoot down this plane.

    Damn Trump.

    (Well, I could comment, but I won’t.)

  6. “I’m sure it’s already happened but I have no interest in diving into but I’m sure Trump has already been blamed for this. ”

Yep, right on cue, Barbara Boxer just blamed Trump for the airliner. These people are nuckin’ futz.

  7. There may be an even darker possibility.
This was the last airplane out before a possible counterattack by Trump for the missile launches, and it was filled with Iranians, many with dual citizenship, and entire families. It is a bit late to be returning from Christmas vacation to Canada.

Who controls the antiaircraft systems of Iran? The Quds.

I suspect there is strife between factions in Iran, and this may have been a Quds action to remove some opposition that was fleeing the country before possible Trump counterstrike.

  8. I think it was the incompetent Iranians doing unfortunate “friendly fire”. Wrongly believing the flight was supposed to be targeted. (70%) Tho other mistakes are possible. (19%, not 20)

And of course it could be deliberate (10%), tho that seems much less likely to me.
    Or something else (1%)

  9. physicsguy,

And now Buttigeg is blaming Trump also. It really is something to see how far over the edge so many of these people have gone.
