Eleanor Clift shows what happens when a person drinks too much Kool-Aid — 13 Comments

  1. Eleanor Clift is, and has always been the leftiest of the Left. She’s hard-core to the bone. Whether she believes it or not is immaterial. She’s promoted far left-wing ideology her entire career.

  2. I recently picked up an outdated copy of Newsweek at the dentist’s office, not having read it in many years. It opened to that feature where they offer a quick thumbs up or thumbs down to somebody who’s in that week’s news — this time, thumbs down to Sarah Palin, whom Newsweek called “cynical” for defending her daughter against that joke of Letterman’s. Cynical, for standing up for her child? Look who’s talking! I put it right back down and will never, ever pick it up again.

I remember Eleanor Clift from years back on the McLaughlin Group (is that what it was called?) She was every bit as hard left as Barkie says and I’m sure she is only too happy to provide Newsweek with just what its readers (the few it has left) want.

  3. She is not very smart. She also has a role to play as a senior female liberal pundit, which is better than being unemployed or flipping burgers somewhere. Why do the hard work of thinking when you can just parrot.

  4. She’s even worse on TV. She was the biggest reason I stopped watching McLaughlin many years ago.

As to furthering her career at Newsweek, she is around 70, so it is a question of whether she or the magazine folds first.

  5. I love the idea that “the other folk’s” activism is orchestrated while (by implication) ours is “genuine feeling”. This is very much a “moral distance” thing. We must keep our framing! It makes us feel good and gives us legitimacy you other folk do not have.

  6. I couldn’t make it past the second paragraph. There were enough outright lies and ridiculous assertions in those few sentences that it would have been a waste of time to continue. Any conclusions she would have drawn were already fatally compromised by her lack of command of the facts.

Let’s hope it turns out to be just so much screeching into the wind when this is all over.

  7. Eleanor Clift? Is she still writing? Or is she just recycling columns from 15 years ago? She’s so 90’s.

  8. I couldn’t make it past the second paragraph. There were enough outright lies and ridiculous assertions in those few sentences that it would have been a waste of time to continue.

LOL. I made it about four paragraphs in. Then I had to stop. Virtually every single sentence is a lie. I wonder if she is receiving compensation from Obama.

  9. Eleanor is a perfect example of the propaganda-spewing MSM. I have never caught her deviating from the Template even slightly. Along with many others in the MSM she views her job as an opportunity to further Leftist causes, apologize for Lefty behavior and condemn anything that could be even remotely be considered conservative in nature.

  10. Who?

And to the numbskull up above, nice try on the moral equivalency. Grownups, however, look to evidence. Now back to your cartoons.

  11. I stopped watching the McLaughlin Group when I heard Eleanor Clift call Dubya’s decision to not reward French, Russian and German contractors with contracts in Iraq as “redneck.”

I decided I didn’t need to waste my Sunday mornings listening to such sneering.

  12. Here’s where Eleanor Clift really comes off the rails:

“In one of the raucous town meetings that popped up on YouTube, the lawmaker asks how many in the audience are without insurance, and not a single hand went up. The outraged voters we’re seeing are getting whipped up by conservative media telling them they’ll get a bigger tax bill and a smaller insurance package if Obama’s ideas take hold.”

Wait…isn’t that actually…true? About the higher tax bill and smaller insurance package? And is she suggesting that if the wicked conservative media would just shut up (as Obama wishes) about the natural outcome of Obama’s plans for our nation’s health care, people who actually pay taxes would go on being blissfully unaware about the huge tax bills and unwelcome coverage changes that would inevitably ensue?

You gotta love this. Eleanor Clift thinks it would be a good idea to keep ordinary, tax paying Americans in the dark – as Kathleen Sebelius has suggested, the issue is so important that the actual details don’t matter. If keeping people in the dark fails, and they get an inkling of what’s in store, marginalize them and call them names. Call them mobs, and fascists, and prevent their community from organizing. How ironic is that?

    It’s not just wrong-headed, it’s wicked.

  13. I agree with expat. She’s just not that smart. Monica Crowley regularly cleans her clock on The McLaughlin Group.

That was a nice touch with the President Reagan anecdote. I’ll bet she was just as respectful of him back in the ’80s, right?
